It so happens I have 2 wooden shoes from over there that have been in the family for a long time. Took alot of work to carve them. Just went and took a pic of them,they are a pair but since they were seperated over 50 years ago,the finish is different on them. /image/54i0qx2dydgz_1305134504.jpg

What I was aghast by was the stats of carjacking reported. Police report 720 such crimes as of Dec. 9, compared to 409 last year and 225 in 2019. Almost double the crime in two short years!
Sending out a counselor sounds sweat and nice but a car jacker would just run over them.Would not help matters a bit. Giving the potential car jacker a new Volvo wouldn't help either.They would sell it for dope money and steal a honda the next day.

Knowing the background, the song is actually quite sad. "Joe" seems to be incarcerated and is unable to spend the holidays with his family. I'm surprised to learn that How To Make Gravy, a sad song, is considered to be a favorite Christmas song for Australians.

• Billabong - a waterhole or pond. It is an aboriginal word meaning little or no water.
• Billy - a can for boiling water.
• Coolibah tree - a kind of a eucalyptus tree which grows near billabong.
• Jumbuck - a large, untamed sheep that might belong to a squatter. It is derived from the two words (jum)ping buck.
• Matilda - a romantic term for a swagman's bundle
• Squatter - in the past, Australian farmers who raised livestock on land that they did not legally have right to use. Some became wealthy when the land they squatted on was ceded to them.
• Swag - a bed roll, blanket, cloth or bundle in which a swagman carries all his belongs strapped to his back.
• Swagman - a man who wanders through the country looking for work carrying a swag on his back.
• Trooper - policeman
• Tucker - food.
• Tucker bag - a bag for carrying food.
• Waltzing Matilda - to waltz matilda is to look for work with a swag on one's back.
My guess is that many of your words, cities, etc have an aboriginal flavor because Australia was inhabited by the Aborigines prior to the "white man" coming. Much of what is named here is flavored by the Native American people who were here prior to America being "discovered".
