It so happens I have 2 wooden shoes from over there that have been in the family for a long time. Took alot of work to carve them. Just went and took a pic of them, they are a pair but since they were seperated over 50 years ago,the finish is different on them. /image/54i0qx2dydgz_1305134504.jpg

And the mayors of these two shit stain cities are outraged... Good job defunding!
What I was aghast by was the stats of carjacking reported. Police report 720 such crimes as of Dec. 9, compared to 409 last year and 225 in 2019. Almost double the crime in two short years!
Sending out a counselor sounds sweat and nice but a car jacker would just run over them.Would not help matters a bit. Giving the potential car jacker a new Volvo wouldn't help either. They would sell it for dope money and steal a honda the next day.
Pay close attention to the first few seconds.
THE LA POLICE can NOT Guarantee your safety!

Hello Dan, it's Joe here, I hope you're keeping well
It's the 21st of December, and now they're ringing the last bells
If I get good behaviour, I'll be out of here by July
Won't you kiss my kids on Christmas Day
Please don't let 'em cry for me
I guess the brothers are driving down from Queensland
And Stella's flying in from the coast
They say it's gonna be a hundred degrees, even more maybe
But that won't stop the roast
Who's gonna make the gravy now?
I bet it won't taste the same
Just add flour, salt, a little red wine
And don't forget a dollop of tomato sauce for sweetness and that extra tang
And give my love to Angus and to Frank and Dolly
Tell 'em all I'm sorry I screwed up this time
And look after Rita, I'll be thinking of her early Christmas morning
When I'm standing in line
I hear Mary's got a new boyfriend, I hope he can hold his own
Do you remember the last one?
What was his name again?
Just a little too much cologne
And Roger, you know I'm even gonna miss Roger
'Cause there's sure as hell no one in here I want to fight
Oh praise the Baby Jesus, have a Merry Christmas
I'm really gonna miss it, all the treasure and the trash
And later in the evening, I can just imagine
You'll put on Junior Murvin and push the tables back
And you'll dance with Rita, I know you really like her
Just don't hold her too close
Oh brother please don't stab me in the back
I didn't mean to say that, it's just my mind it plays up
Multiplies each matter, turns imagination into fact
You know I love her badly, she's the one to save me
I'm gonna make some gravy, I'm gonna taste the fat
Tell her that I'm sorry, yeah I love her badly
Tell 'em all I'm sorry
And kiss the sleepy children for me
You know one of these days, I'll be making gravy
I'll be making plenty, I'm gonna pay 'em all back
"The 21st of December is Gravy Day. Gravy Day was born out of the most popular Christmas song in Australia, which is “How To Make Gravy”, written in 1996 by Paul Kelly, an Australian musician. In the song, a man (Joe) writes a letter on the 21st December to his family."
Knowing the background, the song is actually quite sad. "Joe" seems to be incarcerated and is unable to spend the holidays with his family. I'm surprised to learn that How To Make Gravy, a sad song, is considered to be a favorite Christmas song for Australians.

The folks in Australia are really into the sad song thing...
Oh there once was a swagman camped in the billabong,
Under the shade of a Coolibah tree.
And he sang as he looked at the old billy boiling,
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?
Chorus:
Who'll come a waltzin' Matilda my darling,
Who'll come a waltzin' Matilda with me?
Waltzing Matilda and leading a water bag,
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?
Down came a jumbuck to drink at the waterhole
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee.
And he said as he put him away in the tuckerbag
"You'll come a waltzing Matilda with me"!
Chorus:
Who'll come a waltzin' Matilda my darling,
Who'll come a waltzin' Matilda with me?
Waltzing Matilda and leading a water bag,
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?
Down came the squatter a' riding his thoroughbred.
Up came policemen, one, two, and three.
Whose is the jumbuck you've got in the tuckerbag?
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Chorus:
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda my darling
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
Waltzing Matilda and leading a waterbag
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
But the swagman he up and he jumped in the water-hole,
Drowning himself by the coolibah tree.
And his ghost may be heard as it sings by the billabong,
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.
Chorus:
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda my darling,
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me.
Waltzing Matilda and leading a water bag,
Who'll come a waltzing Matilda with me?
TRANSLATION
• Billabong - a waterhole or pond. It is an aboriginal word meaning little or no water.
• Billy - a can for boiling water.
• Coolibah tree - a kind of a eucalyptus tree which grows near billabong.
• Jumbuck - a large, untamed sheep that might belong to a squatter. It is derived from the two words (jum)ping buck.
• Matilda - a romantic term for a swagman's bundle
• Squatter - in the past, Australian farmers who raised livestock on land that they did not legally have right to use. Some became wealthy when the land they squatted on was ceded to them.
• Swag - a bed roll, blanket, cloth or bundle in which a swagman carries all his belongs strapped to his back.
• Swagman - a man who wanders through the country looking for work carrying a swag on his back.
• Trooper - policeman
• Tucker - food.
• Tucker bag - a bag for carrying food.
• Waltzing Matilda - to waltz matilda is to look for work with a swag on one's back.
My guess is that many of your words, cities, etc have an aboriginal flavor because Australia was inhabited by the Aborigines prior to the "white man" coming. Much of what is named here is flavored by the Native American people who were here prior to America being "discovered".

On another note I had no idea how many Aboriginal people live in Canada

And the 26th of January is Australia day but more called invasion day probably for good reason. Something to do with a fella named Captian Cook. I'm sorry for what happened but will not apologise for something that happened in 1770. Geez I'm not that old. Regardless of my fear of turning 50
