I enjoy watching programs featured on HGTV and the Food Network. One day I fancy myself as being a good cook with a house straight out of a magazine!

This morning I had on a food program featuring Kardea Brown and she was featuring crab gumbo and a cheesecake. Interesting enough, right? Ms. Brown was preparing a recipe and referred to Gullah rice. Apparently, the term Gullah is something understood by many residents of South Carolina but it wasn't until Ms. Brown went on to explain that the term Gullah. For me, the best way to explain Gullah rice is through the help of Google.

Descended from enslaved West Africans who possessed impressive knowledge of rice cultivation, they are the keepers of their ancestors' most time-honored recipes – one-pot meals made with rice and seasonal, locally grown ingredients."

So even on the Food Network, the hosts discuss slavery when sharing their recipes.

All aspects of it, not just the negative 1's. Some of the best food I ever ate was cooked by elderly black women that learned it from previous generations.

They understood the value of hard work and what it could gain.At first it was gain for their owner,but once they were freed, the work they did gave them shelter and other needs.
The young people today,don't value work,or a positive work ethic.Nor do they value traditions. They value the victum mindset.

The need for food and shelter, avoiding predators, taking care of their possetions, and racing a family. What makes you think they were living in a horrible environment? Are you aware how their village life was like? They had communal settings with government, safety in numbers, fenced communities, game for food, domesticated cattle, and farmed crops. They also had forms of trade.
