We have such a housing corporation called Woonbron. They bought an old ship, called the SS Rotterdam, to operate it as a hotel, restaurant, conference hall and workplace. That was a huge gamble and it turned into a horrible money-pit, leaving the corporation with $254 million in losses, after selling off the ship.

Now the tenants are suffering, because the housing corporation is neglecting their duty on maintenance, while raising the rent, to recover that loss.
People have been living in the cold, because the heating system doesn't work.
Because Woonbron is a private enterprise, the local government cannot force them to not screw their tenants. My Socialist Party is trying to help the tenants,
but it's proving tough, because big housing corporations have a lot of power and they have friends in the local government. Woonbron is also clearly planning to use subsidies intended for sustainability improvements, like insulating, to fix some of their deferred maintenance, so they're also screwing the tax-payer.
That's why I support public ownership of rental houses. I'm not saying that public officials never make mistakes like that, but then it would be solved by the government as a whole, instead of fucking over a couple hundred or thousand of tenants to make up the losses. Finding a new retail job is mostly easier and a lot cheaper than finding a new house.

Sears was always the goto store for everything. I remember as a kid my parents buying my school clothes every year and everything from appliances to household items too.
It’s a crime what happened to that company.
