But I'll take a stab at it and say pretty much as much and as long as you wish. So if you want to put it in, get dressed and leave it there all day while you go about your daily activities, go for it. As you and I know, along with hundreds of millions of others, the asshole is a source of endless and enormous pleasure. So use it. At the risk of stating the obvious, however, it does have a role in a vital bodily function. So it would have to be removed for that. As for your question about leaving it in for awhile while reclining in bed (all night, maybe?), I rather doubt there would be any harm in that. But again, I'm not a proctologist. One does not have to look very far on the internet to see guys with large and bizarre items stuck up their asses. Fist fucking is a major attraction for quite a few and numerous times I've seen men with an arm elbow deep in their asses. Compared with this, a butt plug seems pretty tame.
