So, let's put all the porn threads aside; what kind of music are you into?

Not into modern day stuff but I am across the board from classical (favourite composer Grieg) to rock n roll and pop. Love the 1930s Big Bands like Ray Noble with singer Al Bowlly and the music of the great American songwriters, the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart and Hammerstein. Swing including Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller and great singers of the 30s and 40s like Billie Holiday and Helen Forrest. Love Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly (my fave), Eddie Cochran, Bobby Darin, Connie Frsncis, Beatles, Dusty Springfield, Carpenters (whom I saw on stage in 1976) and Abba and also the great film musicals from the 1930s to the 1960s, 42nd Street to The Sound of Music, I could go on and on. I can't envisage a world without music, as Abba sang so succinctly in Thank You For The Music, without a song and a dance what are we???

It was me who wrote that screed 11 years ago before I left the site for a short while before rejoining. My music tastes still are the same today, obviously and, sadly, we've lost dear Doris since then.

I play many musical instruments, so I can say that I like most all kinds of music, I was also in a music video of one of the top five bands ever.

Classic Country for me. Particularly Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard.

Pop, electronic, folk - as long as melody is king. Mainly English language, but also music from Japan, France, Germany. Lost interest in rock. Only listen to music from the last decade, and by artists (mostly) in their 20's. Seems to be a good rule of thumb that it's not possible to be consistently musically creative with your 'A' grade material beyond the age of 31. Mainly female singers/lyricists, blends better with modern production, also (typically) less mawkish or posturing, sensibilities not anchored in the past. Elliphant could well be my favourite artist of this decade. The new Alicia Edelweiss LP (When I'm enlightened, everything will be better) is v.good.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse is top. Because it's not only music, but it's a way of life and the lyrics always has to tell something
