 | Sad news yesterday, 30.1.25, with the announcement of the passing of 60s singer Marianne Faithfull at the age of 78. She recorded some lovely songs all those decades ago, the most well-known and biggest hit being "As Tears Go By" in 1965, a beautiful ballad with a great orchestral arrangement and, somewhat surprisingly, composed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, not the kind of song you would expect them to come up with. I also like "Come and Stay With Me", "Summer Nights" and "What Have They Done To the Rain?", the latter also recorded by British 60s pop group The Searchers. Marianne had a somewhat sad life, a much publisized but volatile relationship with Mick Jagger and falling prey to drugs, a suicide attempt in 1969 which she only just survived and homeless living on the streets of London for a couple of years. But let not that distract us from her lovely angelic voice and those beautiful songs which will be her epitaph. R.I.P. :x :x :x |
