It has always been fascinating to me that hermaphroditeism is the standard we live with. Not that we haven't overpopulated the world to the brink of catastrophe as it is, but for a species needing to expand it's population for example on some newly settled planet in the not too distant future, the ability for a couple to both be able to impregnate each other would greatly speed up colonization and provide for an equal distribution of labor (and the other labor too) among the population. While heterosexuality as a procreative methodology has worked all too well for us, it does require a division of labor based on gender. How about a division of labor based on life's needs instead.
