The other day, I posted something in another thread where I asked members what was the first word that popped into their head when they saw/heard the word "cheap"?
My first response was from
Whoknows and his reply was "perfume". That phrase, cheap perfume, made me instantly think of Journey's DON'T STOP BELIEVING. The post went in a different direction from what I planned but it was so much fun! Example, there were other responses to the word "cheap" that included shoddy, floozy and several more and
huxley999 was able to cite songs with those words in them!
Let's pick a RANDOM word and see if a song comes to mind. My guess is not every word will trigger a song to pop into our heads, but who knows. If you would kindly post a few lines of the song that reflects "the word", the name of the song and the artist and if you like, a YouTube link to the song. PLEASE ATTACH YOUR SONG TO THE PARTICULAR "WORD OF THE DAY".
Let's have some musical fun!

There's a KIND of hush all over the world tonight
All over the world you can hear the sounds of lovers in love
You know what I mean
Just the two of us and nobody else in sight
There's nobody else and I'm feeling good just holding you tight
So listen very carefully
Closer now and you will see what I mean
It isn't a dream
The only sound that you will hear
Is when I whisper in your ear
I love you forever and ever
There's a KIND of hush all over the world tonight
All over the world you can hear the sounds of lovers in love
So listen very carefully
Closer now and you will see what I mean
It isn't a dream
The only sound that you will hear
Is when I whisper in your ear
I love you forever and ever
There's a KIND of hush all over the world tonight
All over the world people just like us are fallin' in love
Yeah, they're fallin' in love (hush)
They're fallin' in love (hush)
I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to save me
This all or nothing really got a way of driving me crazy
I need somebody to heal
Somebody to know
Somebody to have
Somebody to hold
It's easy to say
But it's never the same
I guess I KINDA liked the way you numbed all the pain
Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting KINDA used to being someone you loved
I'm going under and this time I fear there's no one to turn to
This all or nothing way of loving got me sleeping without you
Now, I need somebody to know
Somebody to heal
Somebody to have
Just to know how it feels
It's easy to say but it's never the same
I guess I KINDA liked the way you helped me escape
Now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting KINDA used to being someone you loved
And I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes
I fall into your arms
I'll be safe in your sound 'til I come back around
For now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting KINDA used to being someone you loved
But now the day bleeds
Into nightfall
And you're not here
To get me through it all
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting KINDA used to being someone you loved
I let my guard down
And then you pulled the rug
I was getting KINDA used to being someone you loved

only registered users can see external links
You're KINDA small
And you're such a doll
I'm glad you're mine
You're so good to me
How come you are
You take my hand
And you understand
When I get in a bad mood
You're so good to me
And I love it, love it
You're my baby
Oh yeah
Don't mean maybe
Oh yeah
I know your eyes
Are not on the guys
When we're apart
You're so true to me
How come you are
And every night
You hold me so tight
When I kiss you goodbye
You're so good to me
And I love it, love it
You're my baby
Oh yeah
Don't mean maybe
Oh yeah
You're my baby
Oh yeah
Don't mean maybe

Sometimes,
I watch you when you're sleeping
I wonder what you're feeling
Both wide awake and dreaming
Of yesterday, I want you
To kiss away the tensions
The issues never mentioned
With all the best intentions
But you turn away
Oh baby if you find
I'm not the loving KIND
I'll buy you flowers
I'll pour you wine
Do anything to change your mind
I know you may be disinclined
To find the love we've left behind
So kiss me then make up your mind
I'm not the loving KIND
I'd do anything
Sing songs that lover's sing
If I could change your mind
Am I not the loving KIND?
I'd do anything
Sing songs that lover's sing
If I could change your mind
Am I not the loving KIND?
Somewhere on a Monday morning
In a rush hour of another day
Standing on a crowded platform
Carelessly we lost our way
Sometimes
I watch you when you're sleeping
I wonder what you're feeling
Both wide awake and dreaming
Of yesterday
Oh baby if you find
I'm not the loving KIND
I'll buy you flowers
I'll pour you wine
Do anything to change your mind
I know you may be disinclined
To find the love we've left behind
So kiss me then make up your mind
I'm not the loving KIND
I'm not the loving KIND
I'm not the loving KIND
Oh baby if you find
I'm not the loving KIND
I'll buy you flowers
I'll pour you wine
Do anything to change your mind
I know you may be disinclined
To find the love we've left behind
So kiss me then make up your mind

What kind of fool am I
Who never fell in love
It seems that I'm the only one
That I have been thinking of
What kind of man is this
An empty shell
A lonely cell in which
An empty heart must dwell
What kind of lips are these
That lied with every kiss
That whispered empty words of love
That left me alone like this
Why can't I fall in love
Like any other man
And maybe then I'll know
What kind of fool I am
What kind of clown am I
What do I know of life
Why can't I cast away
This mask of play
And live my life
Why can't I fall in love
Till I don't give a damn
And maybe then I'll know
What kind of fool I am

I've got to heat it up
Doctor, got to heat it up
I've got till 3 o'clock
I've got to rock until you drop
Till you drop, something, ahh
Something KINDA, ooooh
Jumping on my toot, toot
Something 'side of me
Wants some part of you, ooooh
Something KINDA, ooooh
Makes my heart go boom, boom
Something 'side of me
Wanting what you do, ooooh
Something KINDA, ooooh
Jumping on my toot, toot
Something 'side of me,
Wants some part of you, ooooh
Something KINDA, ooooh
Bumping in the back room
Something 'side of me
Wanting what you do, ooooh
Ooh, when tomorrow comes
Baby, I won't even known your name
Baby, so good want to follow on by
But I'll never meet you, never see you again
If you wanna [unverified] line on me, now no
Wait till the band gonna play real slow
If you want your hands on me
I'm digging you up
Can't dance, no pain, no gain, no show
Jump to the beat all night don't roll
If you wanna handle me
You got to keep up
Something KINDA, ooooh
Jumping on my toot, toot
Something 'side of me
Wants some part of you, ooooh
Something KINDA, ooooh
Makes my heart go boom, boom
Something 'side of me
Wanting what you do, ooooh
Something KINDA, ooooh

Oh boy, I can't tell you how sad I feel
And tonight, is just another kink in your steel
(Oh, yeah)
Shoulda known where the man was at
Shoulda known he was coming to make me
I shoulda recognized the plan of attack
When he turned and he called me, baby
Shoulda known where the man was at
Shoulda known he was coming to make me
Shoulda come with a party rap
So I know where the night would take me
Take me, something
(Take me)
Something KINDA, ooooh
Jumping on my toot, toot
Something 'side of me
Wants some part of you, ooooh
Something KINDA, ooooh
Makes my heart go boom, boom
Something 'side of me

It's a kind of magic
It's a kind of magic
A kind of magic
One dream, one soul, one prize, one goal
One golden glance of what should be (it's a kind of magic)
One shaft of light that shows the way
No mortal man can win this day (it's a kind of magic)
The bell that rings inside your mind
Is challenging the doors of time (it's a kind of magic)
The waiting seems eternity
The day will dawn of sanity
Is this a kind of magic? (it's a kind of magic)
There can be only one
This rage that lasts a thousand years
Will soon be done
This flame that burns inside of me
I'm hearing secret harmonies (it's a kind of magic)
The bell that rings inside your mind
Is challenging the doors of time
It's a kind of magic
It's a kind of magic
This rage that lasts a thousand years
Will soon be, will soon be, will soon be done
This is (this is) a kind (a kind) of magic (yeah)

When I'm feeling blue, all I have to do
Is take a look at you, then I'm not so blue
When you're close to me, I can feel your heart beat
I can hear you breathing near my ear
Wouldn't you agree, baby you and me got a groovy KIND of love
Anytime you want to you can turn me onto
Anything you want to, anytime at all
When I kiss your lips, ooh I start to shiver
Can't control the quivering inside
Wouldn't you agree, baby you and me got a groovy kind of love, oh
When I'm feeling blue, all I have to do
Is take a look at you, then I'm not so blue
When I'm in your arms, nothing seems to matter
My whole world could shatter, I don't care
Wouldn't you agree, baby you and me got a groovy kind of love
We got a groovy KIND of love
We got a groovy KIND of love, oh

I got more than I could ask for
I don't have to run around
I don't have to stay out all night
'Cause I got me a sweet, a sweet lovin' woman
And she knows just how to treat me right
Well my baby, she's all right

Yes she is, she's a

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
When I hold her in my arms
You know, she sets my soul on fire
Ooh, when my baby kisses me
My heart becomes filled with desire
When she wraps her lovin' arms around me
It 'bout tires me out of my mind
Yeah, when my baby kisses me chills run up and down my spine
Well my baby, she's all right

Got to be somebody, got, got a sweet little woman like mine

As I went home on Monday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a horse outside the door where my old horse should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you KINDly tell to me
Who owns that horse outside the door where my old horse should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
That's a lovely sow that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But a saddle on a sow sure I never saw before
And as I went home on Tuesday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a coat behind the door where my old coat should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that coat behind the door where my old coat should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
That's a woolen blanket that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But buttons in a blanket sure I never saw before
And as I went home on Wednesday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that pipe up on the chair where my old pipe should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
That's a lovely tin whistle that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But tobacco in a tin whistle sure I never saw before
And as I went home on Thursday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw two boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns them boots beneath the bed where my old boots should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
They're two lovely Geranium pots me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But laces in Geranium pots I never saw before
And as I went home on Friday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a head upon the bed where my old head should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that head upon the bed where my old head should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
That's a baby boy that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But a baby boy with his whiskers on sure I never saw before
And as I went home on Saturday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw two hands upon her breasts where my old hands should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns them hands upon your breasts where my old hands should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
That's a lovely night gown that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But fingers in a night gown sure I never saw before
As I went home on Sunday night as drunk as drunk could be
I saw a thing inside her thing where my old thing should be
Well, I called me wife and I said to her, Will you kindly tell to me
Who owns that thing inside your thing where my old thing should be?
Ah, you're drunk, you're drunk you silly old fool, still you can not see
That's nothing but a hammer that me mother sent to me
Well, it's many a day I've traveled a hundred miles or more
But a hammer with a head like that I never saw before
Oh I can't take another heartache
Though you say you're my friend, I'm at my wit's end
You say your love is bonafide, but that don't coincide
With the things that you do
And when I ask you to be nice, you say
You've gotta be cruel to be KIND, in the right measure
Cruel to be KIND, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be KIND, means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be KIND
Well I do my best to understand dear
But you still mystify and I want to know why
I pick myself up off the ground
To have you knock me back down, again and again
And when I ask you to explain, you say
You've gotta be cruel to be KIND, in the right measure
Cruel to be KIND, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be KIND, means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be KIND
Well I do my best to understand dear
But you still mystify and I want to know why

Cruel to be KIND, it's a very good sign
Cruel to be KIND, means that I love you baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be KIND
, oh in the right measure
(Cruel to be KIND), it's a very very very good sign
(Cruel to be KIND), it means that I love you, baby
(You've gotta be cruel)
You gotta be cruel to be KIND
, oh in the right measure
(Cruel to be KIND), yes it's a very very very good sign
(Cruel to be KIND), it means that I love you, baby

The tide is high but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one
I'm not the KIND of girl who gives up just like that
Oh, no
It's not the things you do that tease and hurt me bad
But it's the way you do the things you do to me
I'm not the KIND of girl who gives up just like that
Oh, no
The tide is high but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one
Number one
Every girl wants you to be her man
But I'll wait my dear 'til it's my turn
I'm not the KIND of girl who gives up just like that
Oh, no
The tide is high but I'm holding on
I'm gonna be your number one

LOCK Up Your Daughters
Yeh yeh yeh
Sometimes you're acting the fool
Sometimes you're breaking the rules
Sometimes you want to run away
Sometimes you stay out of school
But it's a dirty old town and you know where it's where we all belong,
Tell your mama back home coz she was just the same when she was young
I want to give you some advice
Lock up your daughters right now
It will give you a smile on your face
Lock up your daughters somehow
This is the time ' the time and the place.
Sometimes you whip up a storm
Don't get to bed until dawn
Sometimes you get a little high
You'll wish you'd never been born
Well it's a crazy old world everybody's got to get along
Tell your mama back home coz she was just the same when she was young
I tell you right now.
Lock up your daughters right now
It will give you a smile on your face
Lock up your daughters somehow
This is the time ' the time and the place.
You'd better lock up your daughters right now
It will give you a smile on your face
Lock up your daughters somehow
This is the time ' the time and the place.
Lock up your daughters right now
It will give you a smile on your face
Lock up your daughters somehow
This is the time ' the time and the place.
Alice Cooper
You have been accused of mass mental cruelty How do you plead?
Guilty!
Don't wanna be clean
Don't wanna be nice
The whip's gonna crack
My leather is black and so are my eyes
I'm gonna be rough
I'm gonna be mean
I'm here to the end, my sick little friend
I'm back in your dreams
You can take my head and cut it off
But you ain't gonna change my mind
If you don't like it you can lock me up
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
If you don't like it you can lock me up
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
Cover your eyes or cover your head
You'll never know what hit you 'til your covered in red
Screaming bloody murder 'til the barricades bend
Sweatin' in the fog 'til the end
It's gotta be loud
I want it to roar
I want it to blow everyone at the show right off of the floor
I'm in for the kill
I'm back with a rage
I want them to write in the paper each night how I bloodied the stage
If you don't like it you can lock me up
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
If you don't like it you can lock me up
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
Lock me up or shut up
Cover your eyes or cover your head
You'll never know what hit you 'til your covered in red
Screaming bloody murder 'til the barricades bend
Sweatin' in the lights 'til the end
If you don't like it you can lock me up
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
If you don't like it you can lock me up
I wanna be hot
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
If you don't like it you can lock me up
I wanna be cool
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh,
If you don't like it you can lock me up
I wanna be sick
Woah, oh, oh, oh, oh -real sick

Well I wish I had a nickel
For every time I fell and blamed somebody else
I'd give a ton of money to the ones I've hurt
And I'd still be sittin' pretty well
I've spent years losin' touch of what's right and what's real
Caught up in these missions of my own
And you're tellin' me you think I've done so damn well
While we're sittin' here a thousand miles from home
There's a hole in your wisdom, a hole in your sky
Two holes in your head where the light's supposed to get by
Time to LOCK and load
Time to get control
Time to search the soul
And start again
So many times I've seen chances disappear
I hesitate and watch them slip away
Like the time I fail to spend with the ones I love
And it's gone as sure as yesterday
All these users and fakers, big time takers
Manipulating everyone they see
I get caught up in their schemes and their useless dreams
And the only one I have to blame is me
I get turned `round and twisted, pulled left and right
I can see where I'm goin', but I can't see the light
Time to LOCK and load
Come in from the cold
Take a different road
And start again
I can sit here, in the back half of my life
And wonder when the other shoe will fall
Or I can stand up, point myself home
And see if I've learned anything at all
Anything at all
Mediocrity is easy, the good things take time
The great need commitment, right down the line
Time to LOCK and load
Come in from the cold
Pay these debts I owe
And start again
I've been down this road
I've seen things get old
Time to get control
And start it all again
Time to LOCK and load
Time to get control
Time to search the soul
And start again
I've been down this road
I've seen things get old
Stand up, get bold
And start it all again
Time to LOCK and load

Oh, no!
(One little minute more)
We met at a party last week
And the moment your eyes looked into mine
Right then, my lips forgot how to speak
And the soda started tastin' like wine
C'mon now!
(Let's LOCK the door and throw away the key now)
(shom-dooby-dom, dooby-dom-dom)
(I can't wait to kiss you)
Oh, no!
(One little minute more)
We started to talk and you smiled
Sorta like you knew the way that I felt
You moved a little closer in a while
And I knew my heart was startin' to melt
C'mon now!
(Let's LOCK the door and throw away the key now)
(shom-dooby-dom, dooby-dom-dom)
(I can't wait to kiss you)
Oh, no!

C'mon now!

Up on the white veranda
She wears a necktie and her Panama hat.
Her passport shows a face
From another time and place
She looks nothin' like that.
And all the remnants of her recent past
Are scattered in the wild wind.
She walks across the marble floor
Where a voice from the **** room is callin' her to come on in.
She smiles, walks the other way
As the last ship sails and the moon fades away
From Black Diamond Bay.
As the mornin' light breaks open, the Greek comes down
And he asks for a rope and a pen that will write.
"Pardon, monsieur," the desk clerk says,
Carefully removes his fez,
"Am I hearin' you right?"
And as the yellow fog is liftin'
The Greek is quickly headin' for the second floor.
She passes him on the spiral staircase
Thinkin' he's the Soviet Ambassador,
She starts to speak, but he walks away
As the storm clouds rise and the palm branches sway
On Black Diamond Bay.
A soldier sits beneath the fan
Doin' business with a tiny man who sells him a ring.
Lightning strikes, the lights blow out.
The desk clerk wakes and begins to shout,
"Can you see anything?"
Then the Greek appears on the second floor
In his bare feet with a rope around his neck,
While a loser in the **** room lights up a candle,
Says, "Open up another deck."
But the dealer says, "Attendez-vous, s'il vous plait,
As the rain beats down and the cranes fly away
From Black Diamond Bay.
The desk clerk heard the woman laugh
As he looked around in the aftermath and the soldier got tough.
He tried to grab the woman's hand,
Said, "Here's a ring, it cost a grand."
She said, "That ain't enough."
Then she ran upstairs to pack her bags
While a horse-drawn taxi waited at the curb.
She passed the door that the Greek had LOCKed,
Where a handwritten sign read, "Do Not Disturb."
She knocked upon it anyway
As the sun went down and the music did play
On Black Diamond Bay.
"I've got to talk to someone quick!"
But the Greek said, "Go away," and he kicked the chair to the floor.
He hung there from the chandelier.
She cried, "Help, there's danger near
Please open up the door!"
Then the volcano erupted
And the lava flowed down from the mountain high above.
The soldier and the tiny man were crouched in the corner
Thinking of forbidden love.
But the desk clerk said, "It happens every day,"
As the stars fell down and the fields burned away
On Black Diamond Bay.
As the island slowly sank
The loser finally broke the bank in the **** room.
The dealer said, "It's too late now.
You can take your money, but I don't know how
You'll spend it in the tomb."
The tiny man bit the soldier's ear
As the floor caved in and the boiler in the basement blew,
While she's out on the balcony, where a stranger tells her,
"My darling, je vous aime beaucoup."
She sheds a tear and then begins to pray
As the fire burns on and the smoke drifts away
From Black Diamond Bay.
I was sittin' home alone one night in L.A.,
Watchin' old Cronkite on the seven o'clock news.
It seems there was an earthquake that
Left nothin' but a Panama hat
And a pair of old Greek shoes.
Didn't seem like much was happenin',
So I turned it off and went to grab another beer.
Seems like every time you turn around
There's another hard-luck story that you're gonna hear
And there's really nothin' anyone can say
And I never did plan to go anyway
To Black Diamond Bay.
Just got home from Illinois, LOCK the front door, oh boy!
Got to sit down, take a rest on the porch
Imagination sets in, pretty soon I'm singin'
Doo, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door
Giant doin' cartwheels, statue wearin' high heels
Look at all the happy creatures dancin' on the lawn
Dinosaur Victrola list'nin' to Buck Owens
Doo, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door
Tambourines and elephants are playin' in the band
Won't you take a ride on the flyin' spoon? Doo, doo, doo
Wond'rous apparition provided by magician
Doo, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door
Tambourines and elephants are playin' in the band
Won't you take a ride on the flyin' spoon? Doo, doo, doo
Bother me tomorrow, today, I'll buy no sorrow
Doo, doo, doo, lookin' out my back door

Chains, my baby's got me LOCKED up in chains
And they ain't the kind, that you can see
Whoa, these chains of love
Got a hold on me, yeah
Chains, well, I can't break away from these chains
Can't run around 'cause I'm not free
Whoa, these chains of love won't let me be, yeah
I want to tell you, pretty baby
I think you're fine
I'd like to love you, but
Darling, I'm imprisoned by these
Chains, my baby's got me locked up in chains
And they ain't the kind, that you can see
Whoa, it's chains of love got a hold on me, yeah
Please believe me when I tell you, your lips are sweet
I'd like to kiss them but I can't break away from all of these

Please LOCK me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside where I hide
With my loneliness
I don't care what they say I won't stay
In a world without love
Birds sing out of tune
And rain clouds hide the moon
I'm OK, here I'll stay
With my loneliness
I don't care what they say I won't stay
In a world without love
So I wait and in a while
I will see my true love's smile
She may come, I know not when
When she does I lose
So baby until then
Lock me away
And don't allow the day
Here inside where I hide
With my loneliness
I don't care what they say I won't stay
In a world without love
So I wait and in a while
I will see my true love's smile

It's hard for me to say the things
I want to say sometimes
There's no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light
Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me
I never knew I had a dream
Until that dream was you
When I look into your eyes
The sky's a different blue
Cross my heart
I wear no disguise
If I tried, you'd make believe
That you believed my lies
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me
Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words when I
Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
When I couldn't fly
Oh, you gave me wings
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me
Oh, for loving me
Watch out!
I see you on the street and you walk on by
You make me want to hang my head down and cry
If you gave me half a chance you'd see
My desire burning inside of me
But you choose to look the other way
I've had to work much harder than this
For something I want don't try to resist me
Open your heart to me, baby
I hold the LOCK and you hold the key
Open your heart to me, darlin'
I'll give you love if you, you turn the key
I think that you're afraid to look in my eyes
You look a little sad boy, I wonder why
I follow you around but you can't see
You're too wrapped up in yourself to notice
So you choose to look the other way
Well, I've got something to say
Don't try to run I can keep up with you
Nothing can stop me from trying, you've got to
Open your heart to me, baby
I hold the LOCK and you hold the key
Open your heart to me, darlin'
I'll give you love if you, you turn the key
Open your heart with the key
One is such a lonely number
Ah, ah, ah, ah
Open your heart, I'll make you love me
It's not that hard, if you just turn the key
Don't try to run I can keep up with you
Nothing can stop me from trying, you've got to
Open your heart to me, baby
I hold the LOCK and you hold the key
Open your heart to me, darlin'
I'll give you love if you, you turn the key
Open your heart with the key
Open your heart, I'll make you love me (C'mon baby)
It's not that hard, if you just turn the key (I'm gonna give it to you)
Open your heart, I'll make you love me (Ow, c'mon baby)
It's not that hard, if you just turn the key (Watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out)
Open your heart, I'll make you love me (Ow, c'mon baby)
It's not that hard, if you just turn the key (Watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out)
Open your heart, I'll make you love me (I'm gonna give it to you)

Hold me tight
The moon's so bright
Tonight is so right for love
Now's the time to say
You're the only one
Tonight is so right for love
One by one the stars appear
They twinkle in your eyes
Who'd believe that we'd be here
So near to paradise
This could be the kiss
To UNLOCK heaven's door
That magic hour of bliss
That we both waited for
I love more and more
Oh' we could fly right up to the sky
The things we've been dreaming of
And how real they would seem
A midsummernight's dream
Can't you see that tonight's so right for love
And how real they would seem

You gotta speed it up
And then you gotta slow it down
'Cause if you believe that our love can hit the top
You gotta play around
But soon you will find that there comes a time
For making your mind up
You gotta turn it on
And then you gotta put it out
You gotta be sure that it's something
Everybody's gonna talk about
Before you DECIDE that the times arrived
For making your mind up
Don't let your indecision
Take you from behind
Trust your inner vision
Don't let others change your mind
And then you really gotta burn it up
And make another fly by night
Get a run for your money and take a chance
And it'll turn out right
And when you can see how it's gotta be
You're making your mind up
And try to look as if you don't care less
But if you want to see some more
Bending the rules of the game will let you find
The one you're looking for
And then you can show that you think you know
You're making your mind up
Don't let your indecision
Take you from behind
Trust your inner vision
Don't let others change your mind
And now you really gotta speed it up (speed it up)

Another tricky word, I trawled my memory for 'break up' songs for some time with no luck..then this piece of fluff sprung to mind.
We want to multiply, are you gonna do it
I know you're qualified, are you gonna do it
Don't be so circumscribed, are you gonna do it
Just get yourself untied, are you gonna do it
Feel the heat pushing you to DECIDE
Feel the heat burning you up, ready or not
Some like it hot and some sweat when the heat is on
Some feel the heat and DECIDE that they can't go on
Some like it hot, but you can't tell how hot 'til you try
Some like it hot, so let's turn up the heat 'til we fry
The girl is at your side, are you gonna do it
She wants to be your bride, are you gonna do it
She wants to multiply, are you gonna do it
I know you won't be satisfied until you do it
Some like it hot and some sweat when the heat is on
Some feel the heat and DECIDE that they can't go on
Some like it hot, but you can't tell how hot 'til you try
Some like it hot, so let's turn up the heat 'til we fry
Feel the heat pushing you to DECIDE

I don't wanna talk
About things we've gone through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play
The winner takes it all
The loser's standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny
I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules
The gods may throw a dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all (Takes it all)
The loser has to fall (Has to fall)
It's simple and it's plain (It's so plain)
Why should I complain (Why complain)
But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say
Rules must be obeyed
The judges will DECIDE (Will DECIDE)
The likes of me abide (Me abide)
Spectators of the show (Of the show)
Always staying low (Staying low)
The game is on again (On again)
A lover or a friend (Or a friend)
A big thing or a small (Big or small)
The winner takes it all (Takes it all)
I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all
So the winner takes it all
And the loser has to fall
Throw the dice, cold as ice
Way down here, someone dear
Takes it all, has to fall
And it's plain, I complain
I was just doing some clearing away and this song suddenly flashed through my mind. Strange how the mind works.
It is my all time favourite ABBA song.
I came so far for beauty
I left so much behind
My patience and my family
My masterpiece unsigned
I thought I'd be rewarded
For such a lonely choice
And surely she would answer
To such a very hopeless voice
I practiced all my sainthood
I gave to one and all
But the rumours of my virtue
They moved her not at all
I changed my style to silver
I changed my clothes to black
And where I would surrender
Now I would attack
I stormed the old casino
For the money and the flesh
And I myself DECIDED
What was rotten and what was fresh
And men to do my bidding
And broken bones to teach
The value of my pardon
The shadow of my reach
But no, I could not touch her
With such a heavy hand
Her star beyond my order
Her nakedness unmanned
I came so far for beauty
I left so much behind
My patience and my family
My masterpiece unsign
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
And pick up on one and leave the other behind?
It's not often easy and not often kind.
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Did you ever have to finally DECIDE?
And say yes to one and let the other one ride?
There's so many changes and tears you must hide.
Did you ever have to finally DECIDE?
Sometimes there's one with big blue eyes, cute as a bunny,
With hair down to here, and plenty of money,
And just when you think she's that one in the world,
Your heart gets stolen by some mousy little girl,
And then you know you'd better make up your mind.
And pick up on one and leave the other behind.
It's not often easy and not often kind.
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Sometimes you really dig a girl the moment you kiss her,
And then you get distracted by her older sister.
When in walks her father and takes you in line,
And says, "Better go on home, son, and make up your mind."
And then you bet you'd better finally DECIDE.
And say yes to one and let the other one ride.
There's so many changes and tears you must hide
Did you ever have to finally DECIDE?

The door it opened slowly,
my father he came in,
I was nine years old.
And he stood so tall above me,
his blue eyes they were shining
and his voice was very cold.
He said, "I've had a vision
and you know I'm strong and holy,
I must do what I've been told."
So he started up the mountain,
I was running, he was walking,
and his axe was made of gold.
Well, the trees they got much smaller,
the lake a lady's mirror,
we stopped to drink some wine.
Then he threw the bottle over.
Broke a minute later
and he put his hand on mine.
Thought I saw an eagle
but it might have been a vulture,
I never could DECIDE.
Then my father built an altar,
he looked once behind his shoulder,
he knew I would not hide.
You who build these altars now
to sacrifice these children,
you must not do it anymore.
A scheme is not a vision
and you never have been tempted
by a demon or a god.
You who stand above them now,
your hatchets blunt and bloody,
you were not there before,
when I lay upon a mountain
and my father's hand was trembling
with the beauty of the word.
And if you call me brother now,
forgive me if I inquire,
"Just according to whose plan?"
When it all comes down to dust
I will kill you if I must,
I will help you if I can.
When it all comes down to dust
I will help you if I must,
I will kill you if I can.
And mercy on our uniform,
man of peace or man of war,
the peacock spreads his fan

WISE men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin
If I can't help falling in love with you?
Like a river flows surely to the sea
Darling so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
For I can't help falling in love with you

I am not a WISE man neither am I a fool
But what I am, the way the good Lord made me
Though I need you more than you may ever understand
I can't wear a face that will betray me
Oh, if you're gonna love me, love the life I lead
Need the things I need, don't try to change me
If you're gonna take me, take me for what I am
I can't be another man, I can't be free
'Cos the life I lead is the life I lead
Money in my pocket never seems to last too long
I've gambled on the way and drowned my sorrows
Though God knows, I can't pretend it's better on my own
I can't promise you a new tomorrow
Oh, if you're gonna love me, love the life I lead
Need the things I need, don't try to change me
If you're gonna take me, take me for what I am

Well she met him as she promised
Up at Adam's this spring
Expecting some money
Or some other fine thing
No money, no money
To flatter the case
"We'll have to get married
So there'll be no disgrace."
"So jump you up Omie
And away we will ride
To yonder fair country
Where the cool waters glide."
She jumped up behind him
And away they did ride
To yonder fair country
Where the deep waters glide
"Now jump you down Omie
And i'll tell you my mind
My mind is to drown you
And to leave you behind."
She begged and she pleaded
"Oh, don't take my life
And i will deny you
And i'll never be your wife."
There she kicked and he cuffed her
To the worst understand
And he threw her in deep water
That flows through the land
They found her poor body
The following day
The preacher and the reverend
Lord, they all begun to pray
And up spoke her mother
With a voice so a-sting
"Nobody but John Lewis
Could've done such a thing."
They traced him up the waters
To Dutch Charlie's Bend
Where they found him in jail
For killin' a man
"Go hang him, go hang him."
Was that mother's command
"And throw him in deep waters
That flows through the land."

Bob Dylan: Dignity
Fat man lookin' in a blade of steel
Thin man lookin' at his last meal
Hollow man lookin' in a cottonfield
For dignity
WISE man lookin' in a blade of grass
Young man lookin' in the shadows that pass
Poor man lookin' through painted glass
For dignity
Somebody got murdered on New Year's Eve
Somebody said dignity was the first to leave
I went into the city, went into the town
Went into the land of the midnight sun
Searchin' high, searchin' low
Searchin' everywhere I know
Askin' the cops wherever I go
Have you seen dignity?
Blind man breakin' out of a trance
Puts both his hands in the pockets of chance
Hopin' to find one circumstance
Of dignity
I went to the wedding of Mary-Lou
She said "Don't want nobody see me talkin' to you"
Said she could get killed if she told me what she knew
About dignity
I went down where the vultures feed
I would've got deeper, but there wasn't any need
Heard the tongues of angels and the tongues of men
Wasn't any difference to me
Chilly wind sharp as a razor blade
House on fire, debts unpaid
Gonna stand at the window, gonna ask the maid
Have you seen dignity?
Drinkin' man listens to the voice he hears
In a crowded room full of covered up mirrors
Lookin' into the lost forgotten years
For dignity
Met Prince Phillip at the home of the blues
Said he'd give me information if his name wasn't used
He wanted money up front, said he was abused
By dignity
Footprints runnin' cross the sliver sand
Steps goin' down into tattoo land
I met the sons of darkness and the sons of light
In the border towns of despair
Got no place to fade, got no coat
I'm on the rollin' river in a jerkin' boat
Tryin' to read a note somebody wrote
About dignity
Sick man lookin' for the doctor's cure
Lookin' at his hands for the lines that were
And into every masterpiece of literature
for dignity
Englishman stranded in the blackheart wind
Combin' his hair back, his future looks thin
Bites the bullet and he looks within
For dignity
Someone showed me a picture and I just laughed
Dignity never been photographed
I went into the red, went into the black
Into the valley of dry bone dreams
So many roads, so much at stake
So many dead ends, I'm at the edge of the lake
Sometimes I wonder what it's gonna take
To find dignity
As a reward I won't post yet another Elvis track, but something different.

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie
Then I guess it is WISE to be cruel
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie
I know there's something much more
Something even non-believers can believe in
I believe in love, Alfie
Without true love we just exist, Alfie
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day, Alfie
Alfie
I still have to post some of the family jewels though, to merit a full "member"ship. Will do so shortly.
But, to quote Dylan again:
"I'm just average, common too
I'm just like him, the same as you
I'm everybody's brother and son
I ain't different than anyone.
A dick pic from me won't set the site on fire
Down the street the dogs are barkin'
And the day is a-gettin' dark.
As the night comes in a-fallin',
The dogs 'll lose their bark.
And the silent night will shatter
From the sounds inside my mind,
For I'm one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind.
From the crossroads of my doorstep,
My eyes they start to fade,
As I turn my head back to the ROOM
Where my love and I have laid.
And I gaze back to the street,
The sidewalk and the sign,
And I'm one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind.
It's a restless hungry feeling
That don't mean no one no good,
When ev'rything I'm a-sayin'
You can say it just as good.
You're right from your side,
I'm right from mine.
We're both just one too many mornings
And a thousand miles behind.

There's a world where I can go
And tell my secrets to
In my room, in my ROOM , in my ROOM
In this world I lock out all my
Worries and my fears
In my room, in my room, in my room
Do my dreaming and my scheming
Lie awake and pray
Do my crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday
Now it's dark and I'm alone
But I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room, in my room
My crying and my sighing
Laugh at yesterday
Now it's dark and I'm alone
But I won't be afraid
In my room, in my room, in my room
In my room, in my room, in my room
In the white ROOM with black curtains near the station
Black roof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes
Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment
I'll wait in this place where the sun never shines
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves
You said no strings could secure you at the station
Platform ticket, restless diesels, goodbye windows
I walked into such a sad time at the station
As I walked out, felt my own need just beginning
I'll wait in the queue when the trains come back
Lie with you where the shadows run from themselves
At the party she was kindness in the hard crowd
Consolation for the old wound now forgotten
Yellow tigers crouched in jungles in her dark eyes
She's just dressing, goodbye windows, tired starlings
I'll sleep in this place with the lonely crowd
Lie in the dark where the shadows run from themselves

Ain't it just like the night to play tricks when you're tryin' to be so quiet?
We'll sit here stranded though we're all doing our best to deny it
And Louise holds a handful of rain
Tempting you to defy it
Lights flicker from the opposite loft
In this ROOM the heat pipes just cough
The country music station plays soft
But there's nothing, really nothing to turn off
Just Louise
And her lover, so entwined
And these visions of Johanna
That conquer my mind
In the empty lot where the ladies play blind man's bluff with the key chain
And the all-night girls, they whisper of escapades out on the D Train
We can hear the nightwatchman click his flashlight
Ask himself if it's him or them that's insane
Louise, she's alright, she's just near
Like silk she's delicate and seems like the mirror
But she makes it all to concise and clear
That Johanna's not here
The ghost of electricity
Howls in the bones of her face
Where these visions of Johanna
Have now taken my place
Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously
He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously
And when bringing her name up
He speaks of a farewell kiss to me
He's sure got a lot of gall
To be so useless and all
Muttering small talk at the wall
While I'm in the hall
Oh, how can I explain?
It's so hard to get on
And these visions of Johanna
They've kept me up past the dawn
Inside the museums, infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa must have had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles
See the primitive wallflower freeze
When the jelly-faced women all sneeze
Hear the one with the mustache say "Jeez,
I can't find my knees"
Both jewels and binoculars
Hang from the head of the mule
But these visions of Johanna
They make it all seem so cruel
The peddler now speaks to the countess who's pretending to care for him
Saying, "Name me someone that's not a parasite and I'll go out and say a prayer for him"
But like Louise always says
"You can't look at much, can you man?" as she herself prepares for him
My Madonna, she still has not showed
We see this empty cage now corrode
Where her cape of the stage once had flowed
The fiddler, he now steps to the road
He writes "Everything's been returned which was owed"
On the back of the fish truck that loads
While my conscience explodes
The harmonicas play
The skeleton keys and the rain
And these visions of Johanna
Are now all that remain

I can feel a new expression on my face
I can feel a glowing sensation taking place
I can hear the guitars playing lovely tunes
Every time that you walk in the ROOM
I close my eyes for a second and pretend it's me you want
Meanwhile I try to act so nonchalant
I see a summer's night with a magic moon
Every time that you walk in the room
Maybe it's a dream come true
Walking right alongside of you
Wish I could tell you how much I care
But I only have the nerve to stare
I can feel a something pounding in my brain
Just any time that someone speaks your name
Trumpets sound and I hear thunder boom
Every time that you walk in the room
Every time that you walk in the room

I love it in your ROOM at night
You're the only one who gets through to me
In the warm glow of the candlelight
Oh, I wonder what you're gonna do to me
In your room
I come alive when I'm with you
I'll do anything you want me to
In your room
I love it in your room all day
When you're gone I like to try on all your clothes
You won't regret it if you let me stay
I'll teach you everything that a boy should know
In your room
I'm alive when I'm with you
Gonna make your dreams come true
In your room
I feel good in your room
Let's lock the world out
Feels so good when we kiss
Nobody ever made me crazy like this
I'll do anything you want me to
I only want to be with you
In your room
In your room

This was gonna be the night tonight
I was gonna get to hold you tight
But I guess we didn't plan it right
I never stood a chance, we couldn't dance
Cause there's , no ROOM to rhumba in a sports car
You can't move forward or back
There's no room to do what the beat tells you to
Without throwing your spine outta wack
When a little kiss I want to steal
I hit my head against the steering wheel
Now I know the way a pretzel feels
All I can do is shout...Hey let me out!!
Cause there's , no room to rhumba in a sports car
You can't move forward or back
There's no room to do what the beat tells you to
Without throwing your spine outta wack
What a way to waste a day with you
Nothing happens that can tell the truth
Let's go out and find a telephone booth
Yeah that's a better place, I like more space
Cause there's , no room to rhumba in a sports car
You can't move forward or back
There's no room to do what the beat tells you to
Without throwing your spine outta wack

In a deluxe hotel ROOM, hundred dollars to my name
In this kind bed alone, remembering the rain
Love will bloom like roses, money dry up just the same
In a deluxe hotel ROOM, under someone else's name
Everything they told me, let it get into my head
Could make 'em all wanna know me, if I do just as they said
Traded in my body, thinkin' I could make my bed
In a deluxe hotel ROOM, wishin' I was home instead
In a deluxe hotel ROOM, a thousand dollars every day
In my kingdom alone, remember we would say
We never needed money, 'cause fortune don't mean fame
In a deluxe hotel ROOM, wishin' it was still the same
In a deluxe hotel ROOM, under someone else's name

A winter's day
In a deep and dark
December
I am alone
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow
I am a rock
I am an island
I've built walls
A fortress deep and mighty
That none may penetrate
I have no need of friendship, friendship causes pain
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain
I am a rock
I am an island
Don't talk of love
But I've heard the words before
It's sleeping in my memory
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died
If I never loved I never would have cried
I am a rock
I am an island
I have my books
And my poetry to protect me
I am shielded in my armor
Hiding in my ROOM, safe within my womb
I touch no one and no one touches me
I am a rock
I am an island
And a rock feels no pain
And an island never cries
How you doin' out there? Ya ever seem to have one of those days
Where it just seems like everybody's gettin' on your case?
From your teacher all the way down to your best girlfriend?
Well, ya know, I used to have 'em just about all the time
But I found a way to get out of 'em
Let me tell you about it!
Sitting in the classroom, thinking it's a drag
Listening to the teacher rap, just ain't my bag
The noon bells rings, you know that's my cue
I'm gonna meet the boys on floor number two!
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Now, teacher, don't you fill me up with your rules
But everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school
Checkin' out the halls, makin' sure the coast is clear
Lookin' in the stalls, "No, there ain't nobody here!"
Oh, my buddy Fang, and me and Paul
To get caught would surely be the death of us all
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Now, teacher, don't you fill me up with your rules
But everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school
All right!
Oh, put me to work, in the school book store
Check out counter and I got bored
Teacher was lookin' for me all around
Two hours later, you know where I was found
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM (Yes indeed, I was)
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Now, teacher, don't you fill me up with your rules
But everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school
One mo'!
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Oh, smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Smokin' in the boys' ROOM
Now, teacher, I am fully aware of the rules
And everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school!

He was a most peculiar man.
That's what Mrs. Riordan said and she should know;
She lived upstairs from him
She said he was a most peculiar man.
He was a most peculiar man.
He lived all alone within a house,
Within a ROOM, within himself,
A most peculiar man.
He had no friends, he seldom spoke
And no one in turn ever spoke to him,
'Cause he wasn't friendly and he didn't care
And he wasn't like them.
Oh, no! he was a most peculiar man.
He died last Saturday.
He turned on the gas and he went to sleep
With the windows closed so he'd never wake up
To his silent world and his tiny room;
And Mrs. Riordan says he has a brother somewhere
Who should be notified soon.
And all the people said, "What a shame that he's dead,
But wasn't he a most peculiar man?"
