The other day, I posted something in another thread where I asked members what was the first word that popped into their head when they saw/heard the word "cheap"?
My first response was from
Whoknows and his reply was "perfume". That phrase, cheap perfume, made me instantly think of Journey's DON'T STOP BELIEVING. The post went in a different direction from what I planned but it was so much fun! Example, there were other responses to the word "cheap" that included shoddy, floozy and several more and
huxley999 was able to cite songs with those words in them!
Let's pick a RANDOM word and see if a song comes to mind. My guess is not every word will trigger a song to pop into our heads, but who knows. If you would kindly post a few lines of the song that reflects "the word", the name of the song and the artist and if you like, a YouTube link to the song. PLEASE ATTACH YOUR SONG TO THE PARTICULAR "WORD OF THE DAY".
Let's have some musical fun!

I dreamed a dream - Lea Salonga

There was a time when men were kind
When their voices were soft
And their words inviting
There was a time when love was blind
And the world was a song
And the song was exciting
There was a time
Then it all went wrong
I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed, that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame
He slept a summer by my side
He filled my days with endless wonder
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came
And still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
I had a dream my life would be
So DIFFERENT from this hell I'm living
So DIFFERENT now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream
I dreamed

And through social media become the new encyclopedia

Then you just might find
Every man love dem family
That is another familiarity
To demonstrate the similarity

Me differently intelligent
Different medicine, mi nah talk chemical medicine

Look at you and tell myself
How wonderful you are
You're so DIFFERENT now
To me you're much more wonderful, more wonderful by far
Yes, you're different now
There's more to love than holding hands and stealing kisses
No-one else around
There's the good times and the bad
There's the ups and downs we've had
But it's different now I'm so glad I still have you
Ah
There's always something new to see
I look at you, you look at me
And we're so different now
Love gets better every day 'n in some peculiar way
It's always different now
If we ever say goodbye, you'd be lost
And so would I, what's the difference now between us
Love just for a day, and a love that's here to stay
That's the difference now, the difference now

Super trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue
Like I always do
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you
I was sick and tired of everything
When I called you last night from Glasgow
All I do is eat and sleep and sing
Wishing every show was the last show (wishing every show was the last show)
So imagine I was glad to hear you're coming (glad to hear you're coming)
Suddenly I feel all right
(And suddenly it's gonna be)
And it's gonna be so DIFFERENT
When I'm on the stage tonight
Tonight the super trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one
Tonight the super trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Like I always do (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you
Facing twenty thousand of your friends
How can anyone be so lonely
Part of a success that never ends
Still I'm thinking about you only (still I'm thinking about you only)
There are moments when I think I'm going crazy (think I'm going crazy)
But it's gonna be alright
(You'll soon be changing everything)
Everything will be so DIFFERENT
When I'm on the stage tonight
Tonight the super trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one
Tonight the super trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Like I always do (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you
So I'll be there when you arrive
The sight of you will prove to me I'm still alive
And when you take me in your arms
And hold me tight
I know it's gonna mean so much tonight
Tonight the super trouper lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one
Tonight the super trouper beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Like I always do (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
'Cause somewhere in the crowd there's you
lights are gonna find me
Shining like the sun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Smiling, having fun (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Feeling like a number one
beams are gonna blind me
But I won't feel blue (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
Like I always do (sup-p-per troup-p-per)
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life.
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
You're my sunshine day and night
Oh, what a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life.
What a change you have made in my heart
What a change you have made in my heart
You replaced all the broken parts
Oh, what a change you have made in my heart.
Love to me was just a word in a song that had been way overused
But now I've joined in the singin'
'Cause you've shown me love's true meanin'
That's why I want to spread the news.
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
You're my sunshine day and night
Oh, what a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life.
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life (listen to it)
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
You're my sunshine day and night
Oh, what a DIFFERENCE you've made, yeah.
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
What a DIFFERENCE you've made in my life
You're my sunshine day and night
Oh, what a DIFFERENCE you've made.
Go ahead and sing it.
What a difference you've made in my life
What a difference you've made in my life,
Yeah-heah-eah-eah-heah
You're my sunshine day and night
Oh yeah, sing it to me
What a difference you've made.
What a difference you've made in my life, woh-oh-oh-oh
What a difference you've made in my life
You're my sunshine day and night
Oh, what a difference you've made
What a difference you've made, in my life

What a DIFFERENCE a day made
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Where there used to be rain
My yesterday was blue, dear
Today I'm a part of you, dear
My lonely nights are through, dear
Since you said you were mine
Lord, what a DIFFERENCE a day makes
There's a rainbow before me
Skies above can't be stormy
Since that moment of bliss
That thrilling kiss
It's heaven when you
Find romance on your menu
What a DIFFERENCE a day made
And the DIFFERENCE is you

You're sweet as a honey bee
But like a honey bee stings
You've gone and left my heart in pain
All you left is our favorite song
The one we danced to all night long
It used to bring sweet memories
Of a tender love that used to be
Now it's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
I, oh I
Sentimental fool, am I
To hear a old love song and wanna cry
'Cause the melody keeps haunting me
Reminding me how in love we used to be
Keep hearing the part that used to touch my heart
Saying together forever, breaking up never
It's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
But it's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
Precious memories keep a lingering on
Every time I hear our favorite song
Now you're gone, left this emptiness
I only reminisce the happiness we spent
We used to dance to the music
Make romance through the music
Now it's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
I, oh I
It's the same old song
But with a DIFFERENT meaning
Since you been gone
It's the same old song

It's almost midnight
Time to close my eyes
But I see you
I'm so confused
I thought we moved on
Deadly as A-bombs
Run for my life
Fuck these brake lights
Out under night skies
The smell of pesticide
Are you close by
Fire up searchlights
MAYBE I'll see you
Maybe I'll touch you
Cause I want you
Yummy like fast food
It's almost midnight
Sleep will be denied
Lust she comes now
Time to fade out
MAYBE I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time
MAYBE I'm afraid of the way I love you
MAYBE I'm amazed at the the way you pulled me out of time
And hung me on a line
MAYBE I'm amazed at the way I really need you
MAYBE I'm a man and maybe I'm a lonely man
Who's in the middle of something
That he doesn't really understand
MAYBE I'm a man and maybe you're the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won't you help me understand
MAYBE I'm a man and maybe I'm a lonely man
Who's in the middle of something
That he doesn't really understand
MAYBE I'm a man and maybe you're the only woman
Who could ever help me
Baby won't you help me understand
MAYBE I'm amazed at the way you're with me all the time
MAYBE I'm afraid of the way I leave you
MAYBE I'm amazed at the way you help me sing my song
Right me when I'm wrong
MAYBE I'm amazed at the way I really need you

MAYBE this time, I'll be lucky
Maybe this time, He'll stay
Maybe this time
For the first time
Love won't hurry away
He will hold me fast
I'll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Like the last time
And the time before
Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loves me
'Lady Peaceful, ' 'Lady Happy, '
That's what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something's bound to begin,
It's got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I'll win.
'Cos,
Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loves me
'Lady Peaceful, ' 'Lady Happy, '
That's what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something's bound to begin,
It's got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time,
Maybe this time, I'll win.

Can't you see I love you?
Please don't break my heart in two
That's not hard to do
'Cause I don't have a wooden heart
And if you say goodbye
Then I know that I would cry
MAYBE I would die
'Cause I don't have a wooden heart
There's no strings upon this love of mine
It was always you from the start
Treat me nice, treat me good
Treat me like you really should
'Cause I'm not made of wood
And I don't have a wooden heart
Muß i' denn, muß i' denn
Zum Städtele hinaus
Städtele hinaus
Und du mein Shatz bleibst hier
Muß i' denn, muß i' denn
Zum Städtele hinaus
Städtele hinaus
Und du mein Shatz bleibst hier
There's no strings upon this love of mine
It was always you from the start
Sei mir gut, sei mir gut
Sei mir wie
Wie du
'Cause I don't have a wooden heart

Maybe baby, I'll have you
Maybe baby, you'll be true
Maybe baby, I'll have you for me
It's funny, honey, you don't care
You never listen to my prayer
Maybe baby, you will love me someday
Well, you are the one that makes me glad
Any other one, that makes me sad
And when some day, you want me
Well, I'll be there, wait and a-see
Maybe baby, I'll have you
Maybe baby, you'll be true
Maybe baby, I'll have you for me
Well, you are the one that makes me glad
Any other one, that makes me sad
And when some day, you want me
Well, I'll be there, wait and a-see

Rise in the mornin', you're not around,
Searchin' all over, you can't be found;
And in the evenin' I gaze above
And ask the stars the way to my love.
I love you baby, I really care,
I need your lovin', so hear my prayer!
MAYBE tomorrow you'll understand,
Then we'll go walkin' hand in hand;
and in the evenin', by the moonlight,
I'll hold you darlin', I'll hold you tight!
Maybe tomorrow
There'll be no sorrow,
Maybe tomorrow,
Maybe tomorrow, (tomorrow)
Maybe tomorrow!

It's up to you not to heed the call-up
'N' you must not act the way you were brought up
Who knows the reasons why you have grown up?
Who knows the plans or why they were drawn up?
It's up to you not to heed the call-up
I don't want to die!
It's up to you not to hear the call-up
I don't want to kill!
For he who will die
Is he who will kill
MAYBE I want to see the wheat fields
Over Kiev and down to the sea
All the young people down the ages
They gladly marched off to die
Proud city fathers used to watch them
Tears in their eyes
There is a rose that I want to live for
Although, God knows, I may not have met her
There is a dance an' I should be with her
There is a town - unlike any other
It's up to you not to hear the call-up
'N' you must not act the way you were brought up
Who give you work an' why should you do it?
At fifty five minutes past eleven
There is a rose...
Yeah!
I'm just a fly on a window pane
Tryin' to get inside
I'm just a spider making my web
Underneath your house
Maybe I'm deaaaa-a-ad
Maybe I'm deaaaa-a-ad
I'm just a rabbit going on the run
And I know I'm gonna get caught
I'm just a snake sliding in the sun
And I'm living in your flower pot
Maybe I'm deaaaa-a-ad
Maybe I'm deaaaa-a-ad
I'm just a fly on a window pane
And I'm tryin' to get inside
Maybe I'm deaaaa-a-ad
Maybe I'm deaaaa-a-ad

MAYBE it's you, maybe it's me
Maybe it's just the constant rhythm of the sea
Maybe it's just that I have never been the kind
Who can pass a lucky penny by
Maybe it's wise, maybe it's not
Maybe it's you who brought the caring I forgot
Isn't it nice to talk about the special way
That you smile whenever I'm around?
Rising on the shore the ocean came
Walks along the waves of velveteen
His only thought was love for me
Couldn't we stay or must we go?
Couldn't we stay and watch the splashing rocks we throw
Only a fool would want to leave the paradise
That I find whenever you're around
Only a fool
Only a fool
Isn't it nice to talk about the special way
That you smile whenever I'm around?
Rising on the shore the ocean came
Walks along the waves of velveteen
His only thought was love for me, love for me
Couldn't we stay or must we go?
Couldn't we stay and watch the splashing rocks we throw
Only a fool would want to leave the paradise

Only a fool
Only a fool
Deep down in Louisiana close to New Orleans
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens
There stood a log cabin made of earth and wood
Where lived a country boy named Johnny B. Goode
Who never ever learned to read or write so well
But he could play a guitar just like a ringing a bell
Go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Johnny B. Goode
He used to carry his guitar in a gunny sack
Go sit beneath the tree by the railroad track
Oh, the engineers would see him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm that the drivers made
People passing by they would stop and say
Oh my, but that little country boy could play
Go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Go Johnny go, go
Johnny B. Goode
His mother told him "Someday you will be a man
And you will be the leader of a big old band
Many people coming from miles around
To hear you play your music when the sun go down
Maybe someday your name will be in lights
Saying 'Johnny B. Goode Tonight'"
Go, go
Go Johnny go
Go go go, Johnny go
Oh go go, Johnny go
Oh go go, Johnny go
Go, Johnny B. Goode

Ten thousand miles even though I roam
I can hear the call of the hills of home
The canyons high and the valleys low
Echo "how can you stay away"
My dreams are there where the eagle flies
Where the mountain tops seem to touch the sky
The winding streams and the winds that blow
Ask me "how can you stay away"
Far too long have I stayed apart
From this land that I love and DIVIDE my heart
Now, now I know I must go
Where the hills say "don't stay away"
Where the hills say "don't stay away"
You know the day destroys the night
Night DIVIDES the day
Tried to run
Tried to hide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side, yeah
We chased our pleasures here
Dug our treasures there
But can you still recall
The time we cried
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Yeah!
C'mon, yeah
Everybody loves my baby
Everybody loves my baby
She get(s high)
She get(s high)
She get(s high)
She get(s high)
I found an island in your arms
Country in your eyes
Arms that chained us
Eyes that lied
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through, oww!
Oh, yeah!
Made the scene
Week to week
Day to day
Hour to hour
The gate is straight
Deep and wide
Break on through to the other side
Break on through to the other side
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Break on through
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Across the Great divide
Standin' by your window in pain
A pistol in your hand
And I beg you, dear Molly, girl,
Try and understand your man the best you can
Across the Great Divide
Just grab your hat, and take that ride
Get yourself a bride
And bring your children down to the river side
I had a goal in my younger days
I nearly wrote my will
But I changed my mind for the better
I'm at the still, had my fill and I'm fit to kill
Across the Great Divide
Just grab your hat, and take that ride
Get yourself a bride
And bring your children down to the river side
Pinball machine and a queen
I nearly took the bus
Tried to keep my hands to myself
They say it's a must, but who can ya trust?
Harvest moon shinin' down from the sky
A weary sign for all
I'm gonna leave this one horse town
Had to stall 'til the fall, now I'm gonna crawl
Across the Great Divide
Now Molly dear, don't ya shed a tear
Your time will surely come
You'll feed your man chicken ev'ry Sunday
Now tell me, hon, what ya done with the gun?
Across the Great Divide
Just grab your hat, and take that ride
Get yourself a bride
And bring your children down to the river side

Born free, as free as the wind blows
As free as the grass grows
Born free to follow your heart
Live free and beauty surrounds you
The world still astounds you
Each time you look at a star
Stay free, where no walls DIVIDE you
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide
Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'Cause you're born free
You're free as the roaring tide
So there's no need to hide
Born free, and life is worth living
But only worth living
'Cause you're born free

I don't wanna go back home
I don't wanna kiss goodnight
Let us paralyze this moment til it dies
To the end of the earth
Under the Valley of the Stars
There's a car crashing deep inside my heart
Take a ride through the avenues
Across the Great Divide
There's a siren screaming "I'm alive"
It cries
Red alert is the color
Of your paper valentines
Intertwined on this moment passing by
Take a ride through the avenues
Across the Great DIVIDE
There's a siren screaming "I'm alive"
It cries
Red alert is the color
Of your paper valentines
Intertwined on this moment passing by
Do you wanna be my valentine?
So come away with me tonight
With cigarettes and valentines
Cigarettes and valentines!
Took a look down a westbound road
Right away I made my choice
Headed out to my big two-wheeler
I was tired of my own voice
Took a bead on the northern plains
And just rolled that power on
Twelve hours out of Mackinac City
Stopped in a bar to have a brew
Met a girl and we had a few drinks
And I told her what I'd decided to do
She looked out the window a long long moment
Then she looked into my eyes
She didn't have to say a thing
I knew what she was thinkin'
Roll, roll me away
Won't you roll me away tonight
I too am lost, I feel double-crossed
And I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right
We never even said a word
We just walked out and got on that bike
And we rolled
And we rolled clean out of sight
We rolled across the high plains
Deep into the mountains
Felt so good to me
Finally feelin' free
Somewhere along a high road
The air began to turn cold
She said she missed her home
I headed on alone
Stood alone on a mountain top
Starin' out at the Great DIVIDE
I could go east, I could go west
It was all up to me to decide
Just then I saw a young hawk flyin'
And my soul began to rise
And pretty soon
My heart was singin'
Roll, roll me away
I'm gonna roll me away tonight
Gotta keep rollin', gotta keep ridin'
Keep searchin' till I find what's right
And as the sunset faded I spoke
To the faintest first starlight
And I said next time
Next time
We'll get it right

Look at us the picture of happiness
Not so long ago, Ah, not so very long ago
The pride of all our friends
The perfect couple were we
Is this how it will end?
Just a sad sad story.
Living in a house DIVIDED
With a love that's so one-sided
There's no chance at all
The walls have got to fall
Tumbling down
Look at us the King and Queen of emptiness
Living inside our castle of loneliness
Unable to make amends
Such perfect strangers are we
Is this how it will end?
Just a sad story.
Living in a house divided
With a love that's so one-sided
There's no chance at all

I've crossed deserts for miles
Swam water for time
Searching places to find
A piece of something to call mine (I'm coming)
A piece of something to call mine (I'm coming)
Coming closer to you
Ran along many moors
Walked through many doors
The place where I want to be
Is the place I can call mine (I'm coming)
Is the place I can call mine (I'm coming)
Coming closer to you
I'm moving, I'm coming
Can you hear what I hear
It's calling you, my dear
Out of reach (Take me to my beach)
I can hear it calling you
I'm coming, not drowning
Swimming closer to you
Never been here before
I'm intrigued, I'm unsure
I'm searching for more
I've got something that's all mine
I've got something that's all mine
Take me somewhere I can breathe
I've got so much to see
This is where I want to be
In a place I can call mine
In a place I can call mine
I'm moving, I'm coming
Can you hear what I hear
It's calling you, my dear
Out of reach (Take me to my beach)
I can hear it calling you
I'm coming, not drowning
Swimming closer to you
Moving, coming
Can you hear what I hear? (Hear it out of reach)
I hear it calling you
Swimming closer to you
Many faces I have seen
Many places I have been
Walked the deserts, swam the SHORES (Coming closer to you)
Many faces I have known
Many ways in which I've grown
Moving closer on my own (Coming closer to you)
I move it, I feel it
I'm coming, not drowning
I move it, I feel it
I'm coming, not drowning
I'm moving, I'm coming
Can you hear what I hear
It's calling you, my dear
Out of reach (Take me to my beach)
I can hear it calling you
I'm coming, not drowning
Swimming closer to you (Take me to my beach)

Longer boats are coming to win us
They're coming to win us, they're coming to win us
Longer boats are coming to win us
Hold on to the SHORE, they'll be taking the key from the door
Longer boats are coming to win us
They're coming to win us, they're coming to win us
Longer boats are coming to win us
Hold on to the SHORE, they'll be taking the key from the door
I don't want no God on my lawn
Just a flower I can help along
'Cause the soul of nobody knows
How a flower grows
Oh, how a flower grows
Longer boats are coming to win us
They're coming to win us, they're coming to win us
Longer boats are coming to win us
Hold on to the SHORE, they'll be taking the key from the door
Mary dropped her pants by the sand
And let a parson come and take her hand
But the soul of nobody knows
Where the parson goes, where does the parson go?
Longer boats are coming to win us
They're coming to win us, they're coming to win us
Longer boats are coming to win us
Hold on to the SHORE, they'll be taking the key from the door

Ship to SHORE, do you read me anymore,
This line is bad, and fading,
Ship to shore, answer my call,
Send me a signal, a beacon to bring me home;
I have been to see the world,
tasted life at every turn,
And all the time,
Your face came back to haunt me;
Day by day the feeling grew,
I know I'm still in love with you,
The further that I go,
The more I know it, I want to show it,
Ship to shore, do you read me anymore,
This line is bad, and fading,
Ship to shore, answer my call,
Send me a signal, a beacon to bring me home;
Moving fast, all systems go,
You and I had time to grow,
Before there was a breakdown in transmission;
How I wish that we could turn,
The clock back to the days when,
We were lovers in the true sense,
Of the meaning, you must believe me,
Ship to shore, do you read me anymore,
This line is bad, I'm drowning,
Ship to shore, answer my call,
Send me a signal, a beacon to bring me home;
Ship to shore, ship to shore, ship to shore
I cannot believe my eyes,
But I think I see a light;
You are everything I've always,
Wanted in my life;

Here I stand
Watching the tide go out
So all alone and blue
Just dreaming dreams of you
I watched your ship
As it sailed out to sea
Taking all my dreams
And taking all of me
The sighing of the waves
The wailing of the wind
The tears in my eyes burn
Pleading, "My love, return"
Why, oh, why
Must I go on like this
Shall I just be a lonely
Stranger on the SHORE
(Instrumental Break)
Why, oh, why
Must I go on like this
Shall I just be a lonely
Stranger on the shore
This was originally a hugely successful instrumental theme tune to a TV programme, performed by Acker Bilk.

Now's the time your visions and your shreds
Turned out to be the cheap imported threads
The flag reeled out in a cotton kite
Flying miles above the wheat lands in a single stripe
The Revolution came and the Revolution went
The chemical rain left the message on the tent
Wanted: one man to lead a crusade
Payment: a bullet on a big parade
Down in Gangsterville
Where any sane people already crawled under the house
Yeah Gangsterville, the television is always thinking about
Real people, especially when it's hungry
Final decisions are made by the club
And implemented by the shadow of a glove
And sitting in a coffeehouse reading words
We got popcorn salesmen for protection from the world
Went through extensive preparations
I learned all about the other nations
When freedom was defined as a word in a book
I learned if you're plugged into something then baby you're hooked
Into Gangsterville
I searched for a rose or some sweet juice of water
Gangsterville, people are giving
A black lady sobbed on a step--God bless the little born
On the other hand, sitting next to an evil crew
They just got down from floor eighty-two
Been selling Indian reservations
Coming in looking for some jazz and a little libation
I like the same kind of beer
I gotta get right out of here
I'm going to New Orleans--gonna buy me a prayer
Gonna call somebody from a call box there
Hell this is Gangsterville
Bring your money to the SHORE
No automatic weapons on the jetty
Oh Gangsterville, electro shields on the phalanx
Club the Mayor in the streets, it's a chewable fecie
My kind, we are the worst kind
Got enough shrinks working on us
To defy paralysis, identify analysis
Just wanna hold my carburetor bible
Snapping to attention, eyes on the horizon
Keep your filter clean, wipe the oil from your dreams
Keep our hopes pinned to the Southern Cross
You got to believe in something or you feel a sense of loss
Down in Gangsterville
Pelicans dying strangling on a six can strap
Gangsterville shut off all the power burn out all the gasoline
Stop writing things on screens.
If it's not The Clash, it's likely to be Joe Strummer or Big Audio Dynamite (another group with an ex-Clash member: Mick Jones).
Check out Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros - Johnny Appleseed and Cool 'n Out are both great tracks. Medicine Show by B.A.D is a fine example of THEIR work.

Bonuses: Joe Strummer is playing the fat cop, AND Neneh Cherry (pre-stardom) is one of the girl dancers!

[Stills:] If you smile at me I will understand
'Cause that is something
Everybody everywhere does in the same language
[Crosby:] I can see by your coat, my friend you're from the other side
There's just one thing I got to know
Can you tell me please who won?
[Stills:] Say can I have some of your purple berries?
[Crosby:] Yes, I've been eating them
For six or seven weeks now haven't got sick once
[Stills:] Probably keep us both alive
Wooden ships on the water very free and easy
Easy, you know the way it's supposed to be
Silver people on the SHORELINE let us be
Talkin' 'bout very free and easy
[Instrumental (Electric Guitar)]
Horror grips us as we watch you die
All we can do is echo your anguished cries
Stare as all human feelings die
We are leaving, you don't need us
[Instrumental (Electric Guitar)]
Aaaah ...
Go take your sister then by the hand
Lead her away from this foreign land
Far away where we might laugh again
We are leaving, you don't need us
[Instrumental (Electric Guitar)]
And it's a fair wind
Blowin' warm out of the south over my shoulder
Guess I'll set a course and go
[Ending (Electric Guitar and Organ)]
I love this island but this island's killing me
Sitting here in silence, man i don't get no peace
The waves upon my shore take me away piece by piece
Gonna leave everything i know gonna head out towards the sea
Jump off this island gonna head out towards the sea
I love this city man but this city's killing me
Sitting here in all this noise man i don't get no peace
The cars below my street take me away piece by piece
Gonna leave everything i know gonna head out towards the sea
Gonna leave this city man, gonna head out towards the sea
Get miles away, get miles away, get miles away
Get miles
I love this planet but this planet's killin' me
Sitting here in all this grass man i don't get no weed
The sweat comin' from my pores take me away piece by piece
Gonna leave everything i know gonna head to the galaxy
Gonna leave this planet man, gonna head to the galaxy
Get miles away, get miles away, get miles away, get miles away, get miles away, get miles away, get miles away
Get miles

Now a country boy named SHORTY
And a city boy named Dan
Had to prove who could run the fastest
To wed Miss Lucy's hand
Now Dan had all the money
And he also had the looks
But Shorty musta had that something boys
That can't be found in books
Cut across Shorty, Shorty, cut across
That's what Miss Lucy said
Cut across Shorty, Shorty, cut across
You know it's you that I want to wed
Wait a minute
Now Dan had been in training
About a week before the race
He made up his mind old Shorty
Would end in second place
You know Dan with his long legs flying
He left Shorty far behind
Shorty heard him holler out
Miss Lucy that you'll soon be mine
Cut across Shorty, Shorty, cut across
That's what Miss Lucy said
Cut across Shorty, Shorty, cut across
You know it's you that I want to wed
But Shorty wasn't worried
There was a smile upon his face
'Cause old Lucy had fixed the race
And just like that old story
About the turtle and the hare, you know that thing
When Danny crossed over the finish line
He found Shorty waiting there
Cut across Shorty, Shorty, cut across
That's what Miss Lucy said
Cut across Shorty, Shorty, cut across
You know it's you that I want to wed
It's you that I want to wed, no no
And oh Lord it's you I want to wed
It's you that I want to wed
Ooh, man, dig that crazy chick.

Girls, goin' swimming, girl, in bikinis
A walkin' and wigglin' by, yay, yay, yay
Girls, on the beaches, girls, oh, what a peaches
So pretty, Lord I could cry, I'm just a red blooded boy
And I can't stop thinkin' about
Girls, sailin' sailboats, girls, water skiin'
They'll drive me out of my mind, yay, yay, yay
Girls, big and brassy, girls, small and sassy
Just give me one of each kind
I'm just a red blooded boy
And I can't stop thinkin' about
Girls! Girls! Girls! Girls!
And when I pick up a sandwich to munch
A crunchy crunchety, a crunchety crunch
I never ever get to finish my lunch
Because there's always bound to be a bunch of
Girls, in tight sweaters, girls, in SHORT dresses
A walkin' and wigglin' by, yay, yay, yay
Girls, out boatin', girls, just a floatin'
So pretty, Lord I could cry
I'm just a red blooded boy
And I can't stop thinkin' about
Girls! Girls! Girls! Girls! Girls! Girls!

All right
I've been thumbin' rides travellin' light
Walked the streets till past midnight
Trampin' roads, trails and lanes
Scaling cliffs fields and plains
Searchin' till the early dawn
For that long legged girl with the SHORT dress on
Riding trucks, bikes and skis
Sailing lakes and brooks and seas
Driving wagons, cars and jeeps
Walking stilts in ten foot leaps
Searchin' till the early dawn
For that long legged girl with the short dress on
And everywhere I go she's been and gone
She's fine, it's just too bad she's the travellin' kind
So fine, I just can't rest till I make her mine
I've been from Maine to Tennessee, Mexico from Wahkiki
Rain or shine, sleet or snow
Searchin' high, searchin' low
Everything depends upon
That long legged girl with the short dress on
She's fine, it's just too bad she's the travellin' kind
So fine, I just can't rest till I make her mine

There's an echo pulling out the meaning
Rescuing a nightmare from a dream
The voices in my head are always screaming
That none of this means anything to me
And it's a long way back from seventeen
The whispers turn into a scream
And I'm, I'm not coming home
Save your breath, I'm nearly
Bored to death and fading fast
Life is too SHORT to last long
Back on earth, I'm broken
Lost and cold and fading fast
Life is too SHORT to last long
There's a stranger staring at the ceiling
Rescuing a tiger from a tree
The pictures in her head are always dreaming
Each of them means everything to me
And it's a long way back from seventeen
The whispers turn into a scream
And I'm, I'm not coming home
Save your breath, I'm nearly
Bored to death and fading fast
Life is too SHORT to last long
Back on earth, I'm broken
Lost and cold and fading fast
Life is too SHORT to last long
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
I think I met her at the minute that the rhythm was set down
(Oh oh oh oh) I said I'm sorry I'm a little bit of a letdown
(Oh oh oh oh) but all my friends are daring me to come over
(Oh oh oh oh) so I come over and over and over
(Oh oh oh oh) so let me buy you a drink and we'll pretend that you think
(Oh oh oh oh) that I'm the man of your dreams come to life in a dive bar
(Oh oh oh oh) and we'll go over and over and over
(Oh oh oh oh) and we'll go over and over and over
(Oh oh oh oh) and we'll go over and over and over
(Oh oh oh oh) and we'll go over and over and over
Save your breath, I'm nearly
Bored to death and fading fast

Well I'm going out west where I belong
Where the days are SHORT and the nights are long
Where I'll walk
And they walk
I'll twist
And they twist
And I'll shimmy
And they shimmy
And I'll fly
And they fly
Where they're out there having fun
In the warm California sun
Well, I'm going out west
Out on the coast
Where the California girls
Are really the most
And I'll walk
And they walk
I'll twist
And they twist
And I'll shimmy
And they shimmy
And I'll fly
And they fly
Where they're out there having fun
In the warm California sun
Well, the girls are frisky
In old 'Frisco
A pretty little chick
Wherever you go
And I'll walk
And they walk
I'll twist
And they twist
And I'll shimmy
And they shimmy
And I'll fly
And they fly
Where they're out there having fun
In the warm California sun
Where they're out there having fun

Try to see it my way
Do I have to keep on talking 'til I can't go on?
While you see it your way
Run the risk of knowing that our love may soon be gone
We can work it out
We can work it out
Think of what you're saying
You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright
Think of what I'm saying
We can work it out and get it straight, or say good night
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very SHORT, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So, I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we might fall apart before too long
We can work it out
We can work it out
Life is very SHORT, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way

I was once out strolling
One very hot summer's day
When I thought I'd lay myself down to rest
In a big field of tall grass
I lay there in the sun
And felt it caressing my face
As I fell asleep and dreamed
I dreamed I was in a Hollywood movie
And that I was the star of the movie
This really blew my mind
The fact that me, an overfed long-haired, leaping gnome
Should be the star of a Hollywood movie
But there I was
I was taken to a place
The Hall of the Mountain King
I stood high up on a mountaintop
Naked to the world
In front of
Every kind of girl
There was long ones, tall ones, SHORT ones, brown ones
Black ones, round ones, big ones
Crazy ones
Out of the middle
Came a lady
She whispered in my ear
Something crazy
She said
Spill the wine, dig that girl
Spill the wine, take that pearl
Spill the wine, dig that girl
Spill the wine, take that pearl
I could feel hot flames of fire roaring at my back
As she disappeared
But soon she returned
In her hand was a bottle of wine
In the other, a glass
She poured some of the wine from the bottle into the glass
And raised it to her lips
And just before she drunk it
She said
Take the wine, take that pearl
Spill the wine, take that pearl
Take the wine, take that pearl
Spill the wine, take that pearl
Take that pearl, yeah!
It's all good
Oh, you got to do it
Spill that wine, spill that wine
Spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine
Take that pearl

Well, I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad
So I had one more for dessert
Then I fumbled in my closet for my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt
And I shaved my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day
I'd smoked my brain the night before
With cigarettes and songs I'd been pickin'
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Cussin' at a can that he was kicking
Then I crossed the empty street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken
And it took me back to something that I'd lost
Somehow, somewhere along the way
On the Sunday morning sidewalk
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
Makes a body feel alone
And there's nothin' SHORT of dyin'
Half as lonesome as the sound
On the sleeping city sidewalks
Sunday morning coming down
In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughin' little girl who he was swinging
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the song that they were singing
Then I headed back for home
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing
And it echoed through the canyons
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday
On the Sunday morning sidewalk
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
Makes a body feel alone
And there's nothin' short of dyin'
Half as lonesome as the sound
On the sleepin' city sidewalks
Sunday morning coming down
