Sad news this morning, British actress Jean Alexander (real name Jean Hodgkinson) has passed away at the age of 90. Probably best known to British and Australian audiences, her most famous creation was that of "Hilda Ogden" in the t.v. soap "Coronation Street" which she left after 23 years in 1987 to pursue other roles and was successful in the comedy series "Last of the Summer Wine". I also remember her in a c h i l d r e n's t.v. show called "Badger's Bend" before she became "Hilda Ogden". A consummate actress, as "Hilda" she was the nagging wife, hair in curlers, but in real life was elegant and well-spoken and she will be missed. R.I.P. Jean:
