The other day, I posted something in another thread where I asked members what was the first word that popped into their head when they saw/heard the word "cheap"?

My first response was from Whoknows and his reply was "perfume". That phrase, cheap perfume, made me instantly think of Journey's DON'T STOP BELIEVING. The post went in a different direction from what I planned but it was so much fun! Example, there were other responses to the word "cheap" that included shoddy, floozy and several more and huxley999 was able to cite songs with those words in them!

Let's pick a RANDOM word and see if a song comes to mind. My guess is not every word will trigger a song to pop into our heads, but who knows. If you would kindly post a few lines of the song that reflects "the word", the name of the song and the artist and if you like, a YouTube link to the song. PLEASE ATTACH YOUR SONG TO THE PARTICULAR "WORD OF THE DAY".

Let's have some musical fun!

Feed the birds - Julie Andrews (from ‘Mary Poppins)

only registered users can see external links

Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes
In her own special way to the people she calls
Come, buy my bags full of crumbs
Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do
Their young ones are hungry
Their nests are so bare
All it takes is TUPPENCE from you
Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
"Feed the birds, " that's what she cries
While overhead, her birds fill the skies
All around the cathedral the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares.
Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares
Though her words are simple and few
Listen, listen, she's calling to you
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag
Though her words are simple and few
Listen, listen, she's calling to you
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag

‘Tuppence’ = two pennies

Barenaked Ladies, IF I HAD $1,000,000.

If I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
Well I'd buy you a house (I would buy you a house)
And if I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
I'd buy you furniture for your house (maybe a nice chesterfield or an ottoman)
And if I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
I'd buy you a k-car (a nice reliant automobile)
And if I had a million DOLLARS I'd buy your love
If I had a million DOLLARS I'd build a tree fort in our yard
If I had a million DOLLARS you could help, it wouldn't be that hard
If I had a million DOLLARS maybe we could put a little tiny refrigerator in there somewhere
(You know we could just go up the and hang out)
(Like open the fridge and stuff and, girl, there'd be foods laid out for us)
(With little pre-wrapped sausages and things, hmm)
(They have pre-wrapped sausages but they don't have pre-wrapped bacon)
(Can you blame them? Yeah)
If I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
I'd buy you a fur coat (but not a real fur coat that's cruel)
And if I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million dollars)
Well I'd buy you an exotic pet (yep, like a llama or an emu)
And if I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
Well I'd buy you John Merrick's remains (all them crazy elephant bones)
And if I had a million DOLLARS I'd buy your love
If I had a million DOLLARS we wouldn't have to walk to the store
If I had a million DOLLARS we'd take a limousine 'cause it costs more
If I had a million DOLLARS we wouldn't have to eat Kraft dinner
(But we would eat Kraft dinner)
(Of course we would, we'd just eat more)
(And buy really expensive ketchups with it)
(That's right, all the fanciest dijon ketchups, hmm)
If I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
Well I'd buy you a green dress (but not a real green dress, that's cruel)
And if I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
Well I'd buy you some art (a Picasso or a Garfunkel)
If I had a million DOLLARS (if I had a million DOLLARS)
Well I'd buy you a monkey (haven't you always wanted a monkey?)
If I had a million DOLLARS, I'd buy your love
If I had a million DOLLARS, if I had a million DOLLARS
If I had a million DOLLARS, if I had a million DOLLARS
If I had a million DOLLARS
I'd be rich

Dancing in the street - Martha and the Vandellas

only registered users can see external links

Calling out around the world
Are you ready for a brand new beat?
Summer's here and the time is right
For dancing in the street
They're dancing in Chicago (dancing in the street)
Down in New Orleans (dancing in the street)
In New York City (dancing in the street)
All we need is music, sweet music
There'll be music everywhere
There'll be swinging, swaying, and records playing
Dancing in the street
Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy, grab a girl
Everywhere around the world
They'll be dancing (dancing in the street)
They're dancing in the street (dancing in the street)
It's an invitation across the nation
A chance for folks to meet
There'll be laughing, singing, and music swinging
Dancing in the street
Philadelphia, PA (dancing in the street)
Baltimore and D.C. now (dancing in the street)
Can't forget the MOTOR City (dancing in the street)
All we need is music, sweet music (sweet music)
There'll be music everywhere (everywhere)
There'll be swinging, swaying, and records playing
Dancing in the street
Oh, it doesn't matter what you wear
Just as long as you are there
So come on, every guy, grab a girl
Everywhere around the world
They're dancing
They're dancing in the street (dancing in the street)
Way down in L.A. (dancing in the street)
Every day, they're dancing in the street (dancing in the street)
Let's form a big, strong line (dancing in the street)
Get in time, we're dancing in the street (dancing in the street)
Across the ocean blue (dancing in the street)
Me and you, we're dancing in the street (dancing in the street)

Thank you for defining a TUPPENCE. Is a tuppence an actual coin? I suspect that British folks have various terms for money as we do. Buck(s), another reference to dollars, one of the terms my dad uses is "2 bits" and two bits is a quarter or 25 cents.

Two of the British terms that I find unique are "fortnight", which I understand to be 2 weeks/14 days and "stone" as a reference to weight. If I recall correctly, one stone is equivalent to 8 pounds.
By #188992 26,May,20 08:28
Yep, fortnight is two weeks.

Nope, FOURTEEN pounds in a stone. Most folk I know will give you their weight in stones and pounds: "I weigh 12 stone, 4 pounds" for example. We don't tend to go for just pounds, or kilos.

Our current coins: 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, 1 pound and 2 pound. P=pence.

I'm old enough to remember pre-decimalisation coins etc, but that's a whole different kettle of fish. We could end up trying to define tanners, bobs, crowns, half-crowns and guineas if we're not careful!!

To confuse matters even more I know many people who use "tuppence" as a euphemism for the female genitals. Go figure!
By bella! [Ignore] 26,May,20 10:18 other posts
So people you know are apt to give their weight in stones and pounds, is that generally true for most British folks or folks falling within a certain age bracket?

And I'm curious whether the doctor's scales as well as your personal scales weigh you in stones and pounds or if you have to do all the conversion after you see the number? So many things swirling around in my head, I'm getting dizzy just thinking.....
By #188992 26,May,20 10:33
I am pretty sure that's a standard thing across the ages - if someone told me that weighed 90 kilos I would be baffled and have to do the conversion. Similarly, if someone said they weighed 160 pounds I would need to divide by 14, and work out the remainder, before it made much sense to me.

I am happy to report that I don't own a set of scales and I THINK the one's at the Doctor's are in both kilos and pounds - so they can work out your BMI and tell you whether you're a skinny rake or a great big bloater (pretty sure those are the technical terms!). I eat fairly sensibly, exercise and I know myself whether I have put on a few pounds or not. I have only a very loose idea of what I weigh at any one time.

Perhaps the children or people in general, who are educated in the UK are leaps and bounds smarter than the children and people educated in the United States. I'm OLD SKOOL,so if someone told me they were 11 stone 6 pounds, I could quick math in my head and arrive at 160 pounds. I don't know that our young people could. I like numbers and commas seem to escape me.
By #188992 26,May,20 12:09
OK, try this one for kicks and see if you think I'm a mind reader.

1) Think of a number between 1 and 9.

2) Double it.

3) Now add 5 to that.

4) Now multiply that number by 5. Remember this number.

5) Pick another number between 1 and 9.

6) Add this new number to the number you remembered at step 4.

Tell me this result, and I will tell you the 2 numbers you picked (steps 1 and 5) in the correct order.

Bullshit or "magic"?

You and your spirit guides are correct! Don't you have something else that you should be doing at this moment, Mr. Smarty Pants?

I'm not going to ask you how because I'm going to sort this out for myself, thank you very much!

Ha ha. Just waiting for my beef casserole to cook. I shall be out in the glorious, evening sunshine after eating.

Enjoy the glorious evening.

Hmmmmm.....are you letting me suffer? I do believe that you are. I think that I solved how you and your good mates, the spirit guides, were able to sort out the numbers I chose.

Surely the beef casserole finished cooking, you enjoyed your evening meal, the dishes were cleared from the table, washed and put away then you enjoyed the anticipated stroll or drive in the glorious, evening sunshine! But you didn't tell me whether I was correct. I hope you sleep well, Mr. Smarty Pants because this has caused me a good amount of anxiety!

Hey, I'm the one who finds the information interesting, I always thought how curious that term is. Thank you for the "fun facts"! Can you imagine a merchant trying to make change and having to stop what he was doing to saw a coin into 8 pieces in order to make proper change?

You seem to have your mind packed with such interesting information. Very, very nice!
By Andthisisme [Ignore] 26,May,20 09:57 other posts
There is indeed a 2 pence coin today. Although at the time that the song was written there wasn't. That was when, pre decimalization, 240 pennies made a pound then. Now 100 pence make a pound and we do have a two pence piece.

If I had 7,000 DOLLARS and you
If I had all that bread what I wouldn't do
I'd dress you up up like a star in a cadillac car
If I had 7000 and you
If I had 50,000 dollars and you
If I had all that bread what I wouldn't do
I'd write a play play on Broadway and you could be in the play
If I had 50,000 and you

If I had 100,000 dollars and you
If I had all that bread what I wouldn't do
I'd buy my own private plane, we'd spent a weekend in Spain
If I had 100,000 and you

But if I had a million dollars baby I don't need you
If I had a million dollars baby I don't need you
When you think of all that money, honey
I'm sure you can understand I don't need you

If I had a million dollars baby I don't need you
If I had a million dollars baby I don't need you
When you think of all that money, honey
I'm sure you can understand I don't need you

Money Money - Joel Grey and Liza Minnelli (from ‘Cabaret’)

Money makes the world go around
...the world go around
...the world go around.
Money makes the world go around
It makes the world go 'round.
A MARK, a YEN, a BUCK or a POUND
...a buck or a pound
...a buck or a pound.
Is all that makes the world go around
That clinking, clanking sound...
Can make the world go 'round
Money money money money
Money money money money
Money money money...
If you happen to rich
And you feel like a night's entertainment
You can pay for a gay escapade.
If you happen to be rich and alone
And you need a companion
You can ring (ting-a-ling) for the maid.
If you happen to be rich
And you find you are left by your lover,
And you moan and you groan quite a lot
You can take it on the chin,
Call a cab and begin to recover
On your 14-karat yacht! WHAT!?
Money makes the world go around
...the world go around
...the world go around.
Money makes the world go aroung
Of that we both are sure...
*Rasberry sound* on being poor!
Money money money money
Money money money money
Money money money...
When you haven't any coal in the stove
And you freeze in the winter
And you curse to the wind at your fate.
When you haven't any shoes on your feet,
Your coat's thin as paper,
And you look 30 pounds underweight
When you go to get a word of advice
From the fat little pastor,
He will tell you to love evermore.
But when hunger comes to rap,
Rat-a-tat rat-a-tat at the window
*Knock knock* (at the window)
Who's there? (hunger) oh, hunger!!
See how love flies out the door...
For, money makes the world go around
...the world go around
...the world go around.
Money makes the world go 'round
The clinking, clanking sound of...
Money money money money
Money money money money...
Get a little, get a little
Money money money money...
Mark, a yen, a buck or a pound,
That clinking, clanking, clunking sound,
Is all that makes the world go 'round,
It makes the world go 'round!
The Velvet Underground - I’m Waiting for the Man

I'm waiting for my man
Twenty-six dollars in my hand
Up to Lexington, 125
Feel sick and dirty, more dead than alive

I'm waiting for my man

Hey, white boy, what you doin' uptown?
Hey, white boy, you chasin' our women around?
Oh pardon me sir, it's furthest from my mind
I'm just lookin' for a dear, dear friend of mine

I'm waiting for my man

Here he comes, he's all dressed in black
PR shoes and a big straw hat
He's never early, he's always late
First thing you learn is you always gotta wait

I'm waiting for my man
Oh, work it now

Up to a Brownstone, up three flights of stairs
Everybody's pinned you, but nobody cares
He's got the works, gives you sweet taste
Ah, then you gotta split because you got no time to waste

I'm waiting for my man

Baby don't you holler, darlin' don't you bawl and shout
I'm feeling good, you know I'm gonna work it on out
I'm feeling good, I'm feeling, oh, so fine
Until tomorrow, but that's just some other time

I'm waiting for my man
Walkin' home

Oh, it's alright
Huh huh

Billie Holiday, PENNIES FROM HEAVEN

Every time it rains, it rains PENNIES from heaven
Don't you know each cloud contains PENNIES from heaven?
You'll find your fortune's fallin' all over the town
Be sure that your umbrella is upside down
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you must have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be PENNIES from heaven for you and me
Every time, every time it rains, it's gonna rain PENNIES from heaven
Don't you know every cloud contains lots of PENNIES from heaven
You'll find your fortune's fallin', baby, all over the town
Be sure, be sure that your umbrella is upside down
Trade them for a package of sunshine and flowers
If you want the things you love, you've got to have showers
So, when you hear it thunder, don't run under a tree
There'll be PENNIES from heaven for you and me

Bossa Nova baby - Elvis

I said, "Take it easy, baby
I worked all day and my feet feel just like lead
You got my shirt tails flyin' all over the place
And the sweat poppin' out of my head"
She said, "Hey, bossa nova baby
Keep on workin' for this ain't no time to quit"
She said, "Go, bossa nova baby keep on dancin'
I'm about to have myself a fit"
Bossa nova, bossa nova
I said, "Hey little mama, let's sit down
Have a drink and dig the band"
She said, "Drink, drink, drink oh, fiddle-de-dink
I can dance with a drink in my hand"
She said, "Hey bossa nova baby
Keep on workin' for this ain't no time to drink"
She said, "Go bossa nova baby
Keep on dancin', 'cause I ain't got time to think"
Bossa nova, bossa nova
I said, "Come on baby, it's hot in here
And it's oh so cool outside
If you lend me a DOLLAR, I can buy some gas
And we can go for a little ride"
She said, "Hey bossa nova baby
Keep on workin' for I ain't got time for that"
She said, "Go bossa nova baby
Keep on dancin' or I'll find myself another cat"

Willie Dixon - (I’m Your) Hoochie Coochie Man

Gypsy woman told my mama before I was born
You got a boy child comin', gonna be a son of a gun
Gon' make these pretty women jump and shout
And the world will wanna know a-what it's all about
You know here, everybody knows I'm here
And I'm the hoochie coochie man
Everybody knows I'm here

On the seventh hour, on the seventh day
On the seventh month, the seventh doctor said
He's born for good luck, and I know you see
Got seven hundred dollars and don't you mess with me
You know I'm here, everybody know I'm here
Well I'm the hoochie coochie man, everybody know I'm here

Gypsy woman told my mama, said "Ooh what a boy
He gonna make a-many woman jump and shout for joy"
You know I'm here, everybody knows I'm here
And I'm the hoochie coochie man
Everybody knows that I'm here

Gypsy woman told my mama before I was born
You got a boy child comin', gonna be a son of a gun
Gonna make these pretty women jump and shout
The world gonna know a-what it's all about
You know here, everybody knows I'm here
Well I'm the hoochie coochie man
Everybody knows that I'm here

American trilogy - Elvis

Oh I wish I was in the land of cotton
Old times they are not forgotten
Look away, look away, look away, Dixieland

Sing it, fellas.

Oh I wish I was in Dixie, away, away
In Dixieland
I'll take my stand
To live and die in Dixie

For Dixieland I was born
Early Lord one frosty morn'
Look away, look away, look away, Dixieland

GLORY, GLORY, hallelujah
Glory, glory, hallelujah
Glory, glory, hallelujah
His truth is marching on

So hush, little baby, don't you cry
You know your daddy's bound to die
But all my trials, Lord, soon be over

Glory, glory, hallelujah
His truth is marching on
His truth is marching on

Bruce Springsteen, GLORY DAYS

"Glory Days"

I had a friend was a big baseball player
Back in high school
He could throw that speedball by you
Make you look like a fool boy
Saw him the other night at this roadside bar
I was walking in, he was walking out
We went back inside sat down had a few drinks
But all he kept talking about was

GLORY days well they'll pass you by
GLORY days in the wink of a young girl's eye
GLORY days, GLORY days

Well there's a girl that lives up the block
Back in school she could turn all the boys' heads
Sometimes on a Friday I'll stop by
And have a few drinks after she put her kids to bed
Her and her husband Bobby well they split up
I guess it's two years gone by now
We just sit around talking about the old times
She says when she feels like crying
She starts laughing thinking about

GLORY days well they'll pass you by
GLORY days in the wink of a young girl's eye
GLORY days, GLORY days

Now I think I'm going down to the well tonight
And I'm going to drink till I get my fill
And I hope when I get old I don't sit around thinking about it
But I probably will
Yeah, just sitting back trying to recapture
A little of the glory of, well time slips away
And leaves you with nothing mister but
Boring stories of

GLORY days well they'll pass you by
GLORY days in the wink of a young girl's eye
GLORY days, GLORY days

Well they'll pass you by
GLORY days in the wink of a young girl's eye
GLORY days, GLORY days

The Alarm - Blaze of Glory

only registered users can see external links

It's funny how they shoot you down
When your hands are held up high
And you open up your heart and soul
But that's not enough for most.

I remember this much
There is nothing
You shouldn't speak of
If you got something to say
And there is no one
To be scared of
Just get them out of the way

Going out in a blaze of glory
My heart is open wide
You can take anything that you want from me
There is nothing left to hide

Going out in a blaze of glory
My hands are held up high
I'm learning how to hit back
I'm learning how to fight

The law of the jungle says
You look after yourself
But I remember this much
I love as I've been loved myself

Don't forget what I told you now
When the question keeps on coming
And it's "how much more can you take"
When they've ripped your clothes to pieces
"shouldn't you be gone by now"

But you keep on
Going out in a blaze of glory
Setting your sights for the sky.
They can offer you anything at all
But your dreams must not be sold.
Going out in a blaze of glory
No price is high enough
I'm fighting back with feeling
I'm fighting back with love

When the nails are biting into your hands
And the cross is heavy on your heart
Now is the time to really make a stand
My hands are held up high

In a blaze of glory
(Going out)
In a blaze of glory
(Going out)
In a blaze of glory

Going out in a blaze of glory
My heart is open wide
You can take anything that you want from me
But you cannot take my soul

Going out in a blaze of glory
My hands are held up high
I'm learning how to hit back
Yes I'm learning how to fight

Going out in a blaze of glory
Going out with my heart wide open
Going out with my hands held high

Going out in a blaze of glory
Going out in a blaze of glory

Fighting back with love
Fighting back with love!
No price is high enough
To take my soul, to take my soul

To take my soul
It's funny how they shoot you down
When your hands are held up high

Lady Gaga, THE EDGE OF GLORY

There ain't no reason you and me should be alone
Tonight, yeah baby, tonight, yeah baby
But I got a reason that you should take me home tonight
I need a man that thinks it right when it's so wrong
Tonight, yeah baby, tonight, yeah baby
Right on the limit's where we know we both belong tonight
It's hot to feel the rush, to brush the dangerous
I'm gonna run right to, to the edge with you
Where we can both fall far in love
I'm on the edge of GLORY and I'm hangin' on a moment of truth
Out on the edge of GLORY and I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge, the edge, the edge
The edge, the edge, the edge, the edge
I'm on the edge of GLORY
And I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge with you
Another shot before we kiss the other side
Tonight, yeah baby, tonight, yeah baby
I'm on the edge of something final we call life tonight, alright, alright
Put on your shades 'cause I'll be dancing in the flames
Tonight, yeah baby, tonight, yeah baby
It isn't hell if everybody knows my name tonight, alright, alright
It's hot to feel the rush, to brush the dangerous
I'm gonna run right to, to the edge with you
Where we can both fall far in love
I'm on the edge of glory and I'm hangin' on a moment of truth
Out on the edge of GLORY and I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge, the edge, the edge
The edge, the edge, the edge, the edge
I'm on the edge of GLORY
And I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge with you
I'm on the edge with you
I'm on the edge with you
I'm on the edge of GLORY and I'm hangin' on a moment of truth
Out on the edge of GLORY and I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge, the edge, the edge
The edge, the edge, the edge, the edge
I'm on the edge of glory and I'm hangin' on a moment with you
I'm on the edge with you (with you, with you, with you, with you)
I'm on the edge with you (with you, with you, with you, with you)
I'm on the edge with you (with you, with you, with you, with you)
I'm on the edge with you (with you, with you, with you, with you)

Love changes everything - Michael Ball

only registered users can see external links

Love, love changes everything
Hands and faces, earth and sky
Love, love changes everything
How you live and how you die
Love, can make the summer fly
Or a night seem like a lifetime
Yes love, love changes everything
Now I tremble at your name
Nothing in the world will ever be the same
Love, love changes everything
Days are longer, words mean more
Love, love changes everything
Pain is deeper than before
Love will turn your world around
And that world will last forever
Yes love, love changes everything
Brings you GLORY, brings you shame
Nothing in the world will ever be the same
Off into the world we go
Planning futures, shaping years
Love bursts in and suddenly all our wisdom disappears
Love makes fools of everyone
All the rules we made are broken
Yes love, love changes everyone
Live or perish in its flame
Love will never never let you be the same
Love will never never let you be the same

As time goes by - Dooley Wilson

only registered users can see external links

You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss
A sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
It's still the same old story
A fight for love and GLORY
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man, and man must have his mate
That no one can deny
It's still the same old story
A fight for love and GLORY
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

Word of the day for Saturday May 24th - POOR
By bella! [Ignore] 23,May,20 04:19 other posts
Linda Ronstadt, POOR, POOR PITIFUL ME

Well I lay my head on the railroad track
Waiting on the Double E
But the train don't run by here no more
POOR POOR pitiful me
POOR POOR pitiful me
POOR POOR pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me
Well I met a man out in Hollywood
Now I ain't naming names
Well he really worked me over good
Just like Jesse James
Yes he really worked me over good
He was a credit to his gender
Put me through some changes Lord
Sort of like a Waring blender
POOR POOR pitiful me
POOR POOR pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me
Well I met a boy in the Vieux Carres
Down in Yokohama
He picked me up and he threw me down
He said "Please don't hurt me Mama"
POOR POOR pitiful me
POOR POOR pitiful me
Oh these boys won't let me be
Lord have mercy on me
Woe woe is me
POOR POOR POOR me
POOR POOR pitiful me
POOR POOR POOR me
POOR POOR pitiful me
POOR POOR poor me
POOR POOR pitiful me

Poor Boy - Elvis

only registered users can see external links

They call me POOR boy, POOR boy, POOR boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I've got a dolly like you
Ain't got a crust, ain't got a cent
Can't buy a jug, can't pay the rent
I got a heart full of dreams and a lot of memories
And that's enough for me
They call me poor boy, poor boy, poor boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I've got a dolly like you
Can't buy a house, can't buy a lot
Ain't got a bean, I ain't got a pot
But what I got is a heart full of love and memories
And that's enough for me
They call me poor boy, poor boy, poor boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I've got a dolly like you
Don't have a pig, don't have a cow
I don't have a horse to pull a plow
But what I got is a heart full of love and memories
And that's enough for me
They call me poor boy, poor boy, poor boy
But I ain't lonesome and I ain't blue
'Cause I could never be a poor boy
As long as I've got a dolly like
I've got a dolly like, I've got a dolly like you
Canned Heat - Poor Moon

Ever since I was a kid,
You sure looked good to me.
Now I'm a man full-grown, and I
Know what I hate to see.

(Oh well.)
It might be tomorrow.
(Oh well.)
I just don't know.
(Oh well.)
It might take years.
I wonder when they're going to
Destroy your face?

It may seem silly, but I don't like
What's been coming down.
'Cause you've been looking good too long,
To change your color now.

(Oh well.)
They might test some bomb
(Oh well.)
And scar your skin.
(Oh well.)
I don't think they care, so,
I wonder when they're going to
Destroy your face?

I hope I see you in the sky
At night, when I get old.
I hope you'll look about the same,
As when I was a boy.

(Oh well.)
It gets me to gasping.
(Oh well.)
When I think about
(Oh well.)
What they might do.
I wonder when they're going to
Destroy your face?

Well, you sure look good,
In the sky at night.
And it's sad to say,
You won't shine so bright.
Some day,

When they're through with you.
I bet you've seen the cloud we make,
That covers up our rain.
I wonder if you'll hide behind
A shroud like that, some day?

(Oh well.)
I'm worried about it.
(Oh well.)
It makes me sigh.
(Oh well.)
I just can't help it.
I wonder when they're going to
Destroy your face?

(Oh well.)
It might be tomorrow.
(Oh well.)
I just don't know.
(Oh well)
It might take years.
I wonder when they're going to
Destroy your face?

After the Fox - The Hollies and Peter Sellers

only registered users can see external links

Who is the fox - I am the fox
Who are you - I am me
Who is me - Me is a thief
You'll bring your POOR , POOR mother grief
So after the fox, after the fox
Off to the hunt with chains and locks
So after the fox, after the fox
Someone is always chasing after the fox
Where is the gold - It's on the truck
Where's the truck - I won't tell
You must tell - Then I will lie
You'll make your poor, poor sister cry
So after the fox, after the fox
Off to the hunt with chains and locks
So after the fox, after the fox
Someone is always chasing after the fox
Why do you steal - So I'll be rich
Why not work - Work is hard
You'll be caught - I never fail
All little crooks wind up in jail - Not me not me
So after the fox, after the fox
Off to the hunt with chains and locks
So after the fox, after the fox
Someone is always chasing after the fox
After the fox
After the fox
After the fox
Desmond Dekker and The Aces - The Israelites

Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor, poor me, Israelites. Aah

Get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor me, the Israelites

My wife and my kids, they packed up and leave me
Darling, she said, "I was yours to be seen"
Poor me, the Israelites

Shirt them a-tear up, trousers are gone
I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde
Poor me, the Israelites

After a storm there must be a calm
They catch me in the farm
You sound your alarm
Poor a-poor a-poor me, the Israelites

I said I get up in the morning, slaving for bread, sir
So that every mouth can be fed
Poor me, Israelites. Aah

I said my wife and my kids, they are packed up and leave me
Darling, she said, I was yours to be seen
Poor me, Israelites. Aah

Look Me shirts them a-tear up, trousers are gone
I don't want to end up like Bonnie and Clyde
A-poor a-poor me, Israelites. Aah

After a storm there must be a calm
They catch me in the farm
You sound your alarm
Poor me, Israelite
A-poor a-poor a-poor me, Israelites. Aah
Poor me, Israelite
Poor me, Israelite

The Clash - Bank Robber

only registered users can see external links

My daddy was a bank robber
But he never hurt nobody
He just loved to live that way
And he loved to steal your money
Some is rich, and some is POOR
And that's the way the world is
But I don't believe in laying back
Sayin' how bad your luck is
So he came to jazz it up
Never learned to shovel
Break your back to earn our pay
Don't forget to grovel
My daddy was a bank robber
But he never hurt nobody
He just loved to live that way
And he loved to take your money
He's gone now
The old man spoke up in a bar
Said "I never been in prison
A lifetime serving one machine
Is ten times worse than prison"
Imagine if all the boys in jail
Could get out now together
Whadda you think they'd want to say to us?
While we was being clever
Someday you'll meet your rocking chair
'Cause that's where we're spinning
There's no point to want to comb your hair
When it's grey and thinning
Oh
Hey, my daddy was a bank robber
But he never hurt nobody
He just loved to live that way
And he loved to steal your money
So he came to jazz it up
We never learned to shovel
Break your back to earn your pay
And don't forget to grovel, hey
Get away, get away, get away, get away, get away, get away, get away
My daddy was a bank robber
But he never hurt nobody
He just loved to live that way
And he loved to steal your money
Hey
Run, rabbit run
Brrrp, strike out boys, for the hills
I can find that hole in the wall
I know that they never will
Daddy was a bank robber
But he never hurt nobody
He just loved to live that way

If I were a rich man - Zero Mosel

only registered users can see external links

Dear God, you made many, many POOR people.
I realize, of course, that it's no shame to be poor
But it's no great honor, either.
So what would have been so terrible if I had a small fortune?
If I were a rich man,
Daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb
All day long I'd biddy-biddy-bum
If I were a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work hard,
Daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb
If I were a biddy-biddy rich,
Daidle deedle daidle daidle man
I'd build a big tall house with rooms by the dozen
Right in the middle of the town,
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below.
There would be one long staircase just going up
And one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere, just for show.
I'd fill my yard with chicks and turkeys and geese
And ducks for the town to see and hear,
Squawking just as noisily as they can,
And each loud
"pa-pa-geeee! pa-pa-gaack! pa-pa-geeee! pa-pa-gaack!"
Would land like a trumpet on the ear,
As if to say, "Here lives a wealthy man."
Oy!
If I were a rich man,
Daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb
All day long I'd biddy-biddy-bum
If I were a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work hard,
Daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb
If I were a biddy-biddy rich,
Daidle deedle daidle daidle man.
I see my wife, my Golde,
Looking like a rich man's wife,
With a proper double chin,
Supervising meals to her heart's delight.
I see her putting on airs
And strutting like a peacock,
Oy! What a happy mood she's in,
Screaming at the servants day and night.
The most important men in town will come to fawn on me
They will ask me to advise them,
Like a Solomon the Wise
"If you please, Reb Tevye?"
"Pardon me, Reb Tevye?"
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes
Ya va voy, ya va voy voy vum
And it won't make one bit of difference
If I answer right or wrong
When you're rich they think you really know.
If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack
To sit in the synagogue and pray,
And maybe have a seat by the Eastern wall,
And I'd discuss the learned books with the holy men
Seven hours every day
That would be the sweetest thing of all
Oy!
If I were a rich man,
Daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb
All day long I'd biddy-biddy-bum
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard,
Daidle deedle daidle
Daidle daidle deedle daidle dumb
Lord who made the lion and the lamb,
You decreed I should be what I am
Would it spoil some vast, eternal plan,
If I were a wealthy man?
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Down on the Corner

Early in the evenin', just about supper time
Over by the courthouse they're starting to unwind
Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up
Willy picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp

Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile
Blinky thumps the gut bass and solos for a while
Poor boy twangs the rhythm out on his Kalamazoo
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo

Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

You don't need a penny just to hang around
But if you've got a nickel, won't you lay your money down?
Over on the corner there's a happy noise
People come from all around to watch the magic boy

Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poor Boys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

A POOR man wants the oyster
A rich man wants the pearl
But the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
Come on let's sing, sing brother sing
'Cos the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
The rich man wants the princess
The poor man just wants a girl
But the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
Come on let's sing, sing brother sing
'Cos the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
A poor man wants to be a rich man
A rich man wants to be a king
But the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
Come on let's sing, sing brother sing
'Cos the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
Come on let's sing, sing brother sing
'Cos the man who can sing when he hasn't got a thing
He's the king of the whole wide world
Of the whole wide world

By bella! [Ignore] 22,May,20 03:30 other posts
Luther Ingram, IF LOVING YOU IS WRONG

If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
If being right means being without you
I'd rather live a WRONG doing life
Your mama and daddy say it's a shame
It's a downright disgrace
Long as I got you by my side
I don't care what your people say
Your friends tell you there's no future
In loving a married man
If I can't see you when I want to
I'll see you when I can
If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
Am I WRONG to fall so deeply in love with you
Knowing I got a wife and two little children
Depending on me too
And am I WRONG to hunger
for the gentleness of your touch
knowing I got somebody else at home
who needs me just as much
And are you WRONG to fall in love
With a married man
And am I WRONG trying to hold on
To the best thing I ever had
If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
Are you WRONG to give your love
To a married man
And am I WRONG trying to hold on
To the best thing I ever had
If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
If loving you is WRONG I don't wanna be RIGHT
I don't wanna be RIGHT
If it means sleeping alone at night
I don't wanna be RIGHT
If it means coming home at night
I don't wanna, I don't wanna
I don't wanna never, never, never be RIGHT

You gotta stop - Elvis

only registered users can see external links

Baby you've been lying to me now I'm onto you
It's the same old song but it doesn't ring true
That's RIGHT you're WRONG again
Time to change and put you on your own again
You've had your way too long
Time for me to be moving on
You gotta stop, you're wrong again
Stop ... that song again
You've been steppin' out wild and fancy free
Now you've had your fun and you're running back to me
It just can't be if there's no harmony
Then stop!
That's all let's break it up
You've had me fooled now I'm wakin' up
I see right through your lies
You made me open my eyes
You gotta stop, you're wrong again
Stop ... that song again
It's too late now I've made up my mind
Being here with you is just a waste of time
Nothing to say so I'll be on my way
Stop!
You gotta stop, you're wrong again
Stop ... that song again
It's too late now I've made up my mind
Being here with you is just a waste of time
It just can't be if there's no harmony
Then stop! Stop! you're wrong again
Stop that song again
Stop! you're wrong again
You gotta stop that song again
Stop!

Prince and the NPG - Gett Off

Sexy song!!

only registered users can see external links

How can I put this in a way so as not to offend or unnerve
There's a rumor goin' all round that you ain't been gettin' served
They say that you ain't you know what
In baby who knows how long
It's hard for me to say what's RIGHT
When all I want to do is WRONG
Gett off, twenty three positions in a one night stand
Gett off, I'll only call you after if you say I can
Gett off, let a woman be a woman and a man be a man
Gett off, if you want to baby here I am (here I am)
I clocked the jizz from a friend
Of yours named Vanessa Bet (Bet)
She said you told her a fantasy
That got her all wet (wet)
Something about a little box with a
Mirror and a tongue inside
What she told me then got me so hot
I knew that we could slide
Gett off, twenty three positions in a one night stand
Gett off, I'll only call you after if you say I can
Gett off, let a woman be a woman and a man be a man
Gett off, if you want to baby here I am (here I am)
Gett off (Gett off)
One, two, three, no, little cutie, I ain't drinkin' (Gett off)
Scope this, I was just thinkin'
You + me, what a ride
If you was thinkin' the same
We could continue outside (Gett off)
Lay your pretty body against a parkin' meter
Strip your dress down
Like I was strippin' a Peter Paul's Almond Joy
Lemme show you baby I'm a talented boy
Everybody grab a body
Pump it like you want somebody
Gett off (Gett off)
So here we-so here we-so here we are, here we are (Gett off)
In my paisley crib
Whatcha want to eat? "Ribs"
Ha, toy, I don't serve ribs,
You better be happy that dress is still on
I heard the rip when you sat down
Honey them hips is gone
That's alright, I clock 'em that way
Remind me of something James used to say
"I like 'em fat"
"I like 'em proud"
"Ya gotta have a mother for me"
Now move your big ass 'round this way
So I can work on that zipper, baby
Tonight your a star
And I'm the big dipper
How can I put this in a way so as not to offend or unnerve (Gett off)
There's a rumor goin' all round that you ain't been gettin' served (Gett off)
They say that you ain't you know what in baby who knows how long
(Gett off) It's hard for me to say what's RIGHT when all I want to do is WRONG
Gett off, twenty three positions in a one night stand
Gett off, I'll only call you after if you say I can
Gett off, let a woman be a woman and a man be a man
Gett off, if you want to baby here I am
Come on
Gett off
Gett off
Gett off
Gett off
Gett off
Gett off
Gett off
Gett off

Wet - You're Not Wrong
only registered users can see external links

You wanna sail away
Into a setting sun
Throw it all away
For your only one
I tried to pull away
You said I'm too far gone

But when I think about it, baby
And I've been thinking hard and long
Oh, when I think about it, baby
You're not WRONG, no, no
You're not wrong, no, no

You wanna start RIGHT away
Said a new day's begun
It's not as easy for me
To just get along

Is something getting to you?
Someone else's arms?
Got into the evening
It's all overgrown

And when I think about it, baby
And I've been thinking hard and long
When I think about it, baby
You're not wrong, no, no
You're not wrong, no, no

Wanna see my face
In a setting sun
Throw your life away
For your only one
I tried to pull away
But you say it's already on

And when I think about it, baby
And I've been thinking hard and long
When I think about it, baby
You're not wrong, no, no
You're not wrong, no, no, wrong

Frankie and Johnny - Elvis

only registered users can see external links

Frankie and me we were lovers
Oh lordy how we could love
Swore we'd be true to each other
Just as true as stars above
I was her man, she caught me doing her WRONG

My luck in poker was fading
When a new gal caught my eye
I gambled, I tried to change my luck
With a chick named Nellie Bly
I was Frankie's man but I was doing her wrong

Yeah! Frankie came looking to find me
Yes, she wasn't looking for fun
For in her sweet loving hand
She was totin' a 44 gun
To shoot her man if he was doin' her wrong

Well Frankie walked into the bar room
And RIGHT there in front of her eyes
There was her loving Johnny
Making love to that Nellie Bly
I was her man, she caught me doing her wrong

Frankie, I beg, please don't shoot me
Well they'll put you away in a cell
You know they'll put you where the cold wind blows
From the hottest corner in hell
I'm your man, I know I done you wrong

Easy on the roll, real easy
Easy on the roll, real slow
Roll me over real gently
'Cause my wound hurts me so
Well I was her man
Well I done her wrong

Well Frankie told Johnny
Well this is the end of my song
I was her man, well I done her wrong
Well , hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Done her wrong
Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Power of Equality

I've got a soul that can not sleep
At night when something just ain't right
Blood red, but without sight
Exploding egos in the night
Mix like sticks of dynamite
Red black or white, this is my fight
Come on courage, let's be heard
Turn feelings into words
American equality has always been sour
An attitude I would like to devour
My name is peace, this is my hour
Can I get just a little bit of power

The power of equality
Is not yet what it ought to be
It fills me up like a hollow tree
The power of equality

Right or wrong, my song is strong
You don't like it, get along
Say what I want, do what I can
Death to the message of the Ku Klux Klan
I don't buy supremacy
Media chief, you menance me
The people you say cause all the crime
Wake up motherfucker and smell the slime
Blackest anger, whitest fear
Can you hear me, am I clear
My name is peace, this is my hour
Can I get just a little bit of power

The power of equality
Is not yet what it ought to be
It fills me up like a hollow tree
The power of equality

I've got tapes
I've got c.d.'s
I've got my Public Enemy
My lilly white ass is tickled pink
When I listen to the music that makes me think
Not another motherfuckin' politician
Doin' nothin' but something for his own ambition
Never touch the sound we make
Soul sacred love, vows that we take
To create straight what is true
Yo he's with me and what I do
My name is peace, this my hour
Can I get just a little bit of power

The power of equality
Is not yet what it ought to be
It fills me up like a hollow tree
The power of equality

Madder than a motherfucker, lick my finger
Can't forget, cause the memory lingers
Count 'em off quick, little piccadilly sickness
Take me to the hick, eat my thickness
I've got a welt from the Bible belt
Dealing with the hand that I've been dealt
Sitting in the grip of a killing fist
Giving up blood just to exist
Rub me wrong and I get pissed
No I can not get to this
People in pain, I do not dig it
Change of brain for Mr. Bigot
Little brother do you hear me
Have a heart oh come get near me
Misery is not my friend
But I'll break before I bend
What I see is insanity
Whatever happened to humanity

Whether I'm RIGHTVor whether I'm WRONG
Whether I find a place in this world or never belong
I gotta be me, I've gotta be me
What else can I be but what I am
I want to live, not merely survive
And I won't give up this dream
Of life that keeps me alive
I gotta be me, I gotta be me
The dream that I see makes me what I am
That far away prize, a world of success
Is waiting for me if I heed the call
I won't settle down, won't settle for less
As long as there's a chance that I can have it all
I'll go it alone, that's how it must be
I can't be right for somebody else
If I'm not right for me
I gotta be free, I've gotta be free
Daring to try, to do it or die
I've gotta be me
I'll go it alone, that's how it must be
I can't be right for somebody else
If I'm not right for me
I gotta be free, I just gotta be free
Daring to try, to do it or die
I gotta be me
Ned’s Atomic Dustbin - Not Sleeping Around

Don't know if I'm right
But I'm not wrong, just now
Don't know what makes you think I'm so strong
Somehow
It's in keeping
With my not sleeping around

You keep thinking I'm tired of you
But I'm just tired
While I keep saying you're sick of me
But you're just sick
It's in keeping
With your not sleeping around

You only do it 'cause you can
You only say it 'cause you can
I'm supposed to take it like a man
What if I can't?
I can't give more, you can't take more

You only do it 'cause you can
You only say it 'cause you can
I'm supposed to take it like a man
What if I can?

I can't keep it from my head
That you're never around, never around
You can't get yourself out of bed, so
You never come 'round, you never come 'round

It gets too hard for me to think
That becomes too much to drink
Now I'm scared that if I blink
You'll be on the brink
Of needing a free roam, please don't let go

Don't know if I'm right
But I'm not wrong, just now
Don't know what makes you think I'm so strong
Somehow

It's in keeping
With my not sleeping around
