I've been using cockrings for years. They really do give you a better and –for some of us– a more lasting and reliable erection.
For some reason, the stiffer your erection is, the stronger the good sensations are when masturbating or fucking.

It's important to get the right size, and that size depends on whether you want to wear it around both your balls and cock or just your cock. For me, both are equally effective in helping me maintain a good erection. And not including your balls may save them some pain.

A tip:
To experiment, just use a soft shoelace or a strip of leather or anything else that won't stretch out. This will function just as well as any cockring you can buy. Another tip:
You can buy black rubber O-rings (Dichtungsringe) and also metal rings in many different sizes in a hardware or "Home Depot" type store (im Baumarkt im Abteil wo man Schrauben, Mütter und sämtliche Ersatzteilchen findet). Look through the drawers and racks of screws, nuts and bolts.
You can just walk in and buy several different sizes for a dollar or two. It's quicker and much cheaper than ordering from a porn shop. Everyone will just assume you're repairing your wife's machine. lol

One last tip:
The very gooshy-type silicone ones in pretty transparent colors (sehr weich und ähneln Gummibären) are a complete waste of money. They stretch too much and never constrict enough to really do the job.
