Rejoice on this 75th Anniversary of VE Day. Sadly, because of this wretched virus, all the planned celebrations and parades in central London and street parties in the suburbs - and almost certainly in other cities across Europe and the world - have been cancelled which is a great shame. But we must not forget the great sacrifices made during that terrible conflict and I hope you will spend a moment or two today to celebrate in whatever way you can. There will be a 2 minutes silence at 11 a.m. in the UK. Luv RM xxx:x :x :x

I was wondering if Germany acknowledges VE Day and found this:

"Around the world, nations celebrate VE Day as a defeat of Nazi Germany. But in Germany, VE Day is both a day to remember victims of fascism and a moment to celebrate freedom from fascism. ... For years many Germans viewed May 8 as a day of defeat."

It was a day of defeat but not a healthy way of thinking. This new way is flawed but workable. Fascism in Germany was not only very popular during the'30's but during the war. For us it's different. It means a joyous day that was costly to get but the results worthwhile. It's a day to reflect how costly.
