Did I earn your respect when I ran for an office that you yourself would NEVER run for? I could go on and on, but I won't.
For those of you twits that maintain and stand by your ignorant ass montra. I say to you... Try giving some first, fuckhead!! You'd might be able to learn a lesson from what was known as the greatest generation.
The people who use it most often aren't using it correctly.
There is a difference between behaving "respectfully" (which means to treat people politely and with common regard--which all people are entitled to) and "having respect" (which means to treat them with admiration and deference--which is something people earn based upon their behavior and treatment of others) for a person.
Sure, it's a tiny semantic difference, but it is important to note.
Most people who say "Respect has to be earned" are merely using it as an excuse to be disrespectful to those around them.
- using an outhouse to go to the bathroom when I was growing up
- when our telephone was a party line and you got an operator when you picked up the phone to make a call
- when gasoline was 25 cents a gallon
- walking home from and to school if you missed the bus
- comic books cost 10 cents and we waited anxiously for the next Superman edition to be issued
- when the hourly minimum factory wage was $1.60 per hour (in New Jersey)
- working on a farm when I was 13, (UGH never do that again)
- having to use a road map when you had to go somewhere you weren't familiar with
- catching fireflies in the summer evening when I was growing up
- my parents struggling to make ends meet, we made it
- getting my draft notice and saying "Oh fuck..."
- wondering if I would ever come home alive from my time in the service
- learning how to drive using a standard transmission
- when doctors made house calls
- getting sick with measles, and other childhood diseases
- getting "bullied" in high school
- leaving home at 17 and having to "make" is on my own
and so many more memories, good and bad...
- I remember rotary dial phones and my parents had one in basic black and it was anchored to the wall in the kitchen.
- I grew up in a two bathroom home although there were some squabbles that happened if anyone of us 3, my 2 s,isters and myself, took too long in the main bathroom. There were 2 years that I went to Camp Metamora, as Girl Scout and there were outhouses! Ugh!
- I remember the time that young people were respectful to their parents, their teachers, authority figures.
- Landing my first job, a job for a major company. I don't recall what my starting wage was but it seemed like I was a "millionaire". The first year I bought my mom a dishwasher for Christmas and saved enough money to pay cash for a brand new car.
- Growing up in a small family, wishing I had a b,rother and cousins, too.
- As the middle child, wondering where I fit in.
- I remember the summer day, the day my mother allowed me to perfect my driving skills. Going forward was no problem it was backing up where I needed to fine tune my skill. My practice session came to a complete stop when I backed into my neighbors house, well actually, it was their chimney.
- The day my mother asked me what it felt like to smoke marijuana. I happened to have a joint and my mom, my aunt and I smoked.
- I remember that day in September, the day I moved out. My mom cried and cried, she didn't want me to leave. I was the first one to move out, I have no regrets.
And like you expressed, veryshyguy, some memories are good and some not so good. But my journey through life has shaped me into who I am today. Regardless of how any SYD/SYC member feels about me, whether good or bad, I am okay with myself.
- when we respected each other's opinion, religion, etc. and we tried to treat everyone with respect and harbored no hatr-ed or fear
- when there was civility and respect in politics and compromise was what everyone wanted
- how b-adly we treated minorities and those with different sexual orientations - I had hope that we were making progress in getting rid of our prejudices but I fear we are now going back to those days which angers me
- going to seeing the METS play in their inaugural year in 1962 at the Polo Grounds in NYC!
- seeing Roberto Clamente play against the Phillies
- playing little league and little bigger league summer leagues wondering if I would good enough to play in the majors - NOT!!!! (What a joke! LOL) But it was fun!!!
And looking back, after 69 years of disappointment, heartache, aches and pains, I have endured. I harbor no hatred. I just want to live out whatever time I have left. I stay away from divisive nature of our politics and the hatred that is being spewed by those who should know better.
I try to be charitable, loving and giving of my time to everyone regardless of who they are.
I see everyone as a human being first and foremost, with feelings, loving families, hope and dreams and wanting and needed to be given the chance to prosper and to make their way in the world the best way they know how.
I know I cannot rid the world of hatred or resentment, I can only affect my own sphere of influence.

"Starting Dec. 17, adult content will not be allowed on Tumblr, regardless of how old you are," the note reads. "Adult content primarily includes photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content — including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations--that depicts sex acts."
Tumblr CEO Jeff D'Onofrio painted the ban as a move towards a "better, more positive Tumblr" in a blog post Monday. "We spent considerable time weighing the pros and cons of expression in the community that includes adult content," he wrote. "In doing so, it became clear that without this content we have the opportunity to create a place where more people feel comfortable expressing themselves."
Tumblr said that it would make exceptions for photos of exposed female breasts in the context of breastfeeding, childbirth and other health-related subjects. Users will also be able to continue to post any newsworthy content and art involving nudity, as well as written erotica. The latter, and any content flagged as such, will continue to remain age-restricted.
Any x-rated content previously uploaded to Tumblr will only be viewable by the original uploader going forward. The platform is also giving users an appeals process to take action if they believe that their content was removed in error.
Yahoo acquired Tumblr for $1.1 billion in 2013. The company, and its new owner Verizon, have since struggled to monetize Tumblr's community.
However, the latest policy change seems to be equally motivated by outside pressure: Apple removed Tumblr's app from its App Store last month after **** porn surfaced within the app. The timing of Tumblr's adult content ban suggests that Tumblr may have opted to rid itself of all x-rated content to regain access to the App Store, as Motherboard reported Monday.
