never heard of her,I guess I will have to google that name to.
WHy can't we get someone on either side to run that folks already know so we don't have to guess where they stand on issues we are concerned about.

Edit, well that was depressing, yet another health care for all idiot that has no idea money does not grow on trees.

"Harris has supported Medicare for all, legalization of recreational marijuana, sanctuary cities, passing a DREAM Act, lowering taxes for the working- and middle-class while raising taxes on corporations and the wealthy, and has disavowed most corporate donations. "

The turning down MOST corporate donations is notable, but just who is she getting money from would be a good question. George SOros?
But as soon as I saw she wants to raise taxes on the corporatains that employ the working class she wants to reduce the taxes on, I knew she can't be to smart. That just means they will reduce employees and wages paid to make up for the higher taxes.

They don't bother with the trees, phart.

They "simply create it out of thin air" (see para 2 of this article):

If a nation as rich as the US can't provide universal healthcare it's because you have screwed up how to allocate your National resources, not because you can't afford to do so.

Hux, there is alot screwing up to go around.1 thing that burns me is the exspensive doctors offices and equipment that sit idle for 16 hours of each work day and 24 hours 2 days a week. Doctors and nurses should be working in shifts to provide more care more often and use those offices and equipment instead of folks waiting a month to see a specialtist or longer.Make more money, they could charge less for the services.
Look at the good paying jobs that could be had by the unemployed by simply opening those offices 8 more hours a day!
Now I know hospitals do this,I am talking about the family doctors and the specialist that do like out patient surgerys and such.
By #188992 23,Jan,19 09:54
Interesting points, phart. As someone whose utterings seem to indicate that you are to the right, politically, how would you suggest making that happen?

Free market capitalism does not, it would appear, provide any financial incentive for family surgeries; specialists; or out-patient surgeries to do so.

Might it require state/federal intervention to help make this happen? That's a bit left-wing isn't it?

To my mind it boils down to a pretty simple question:

Do you want to ensure that every citizen of your Nation has access to healthcare when they need it and how do you propose to pay for that? My answer is "yes" and that you fund it out of the public purse/general taxation and you do NOT require people to take out medical insurance. You can argue differently, if you wish, but think things through.

only registered users can see external links

If you read that - you can see that you spend, as a Nation, more of your GDP on healthcare and don't get the results you should. Empiricism might make you reconsider your views.

I would argue that your relatively poor results are as a direct result of allowing the profit motive to be part of the raison d'etre of your healthcare providers.

The British NHS has it's problems, particularly under our current right wing government, but I'll take it over the US system any day of the week.
By phart [Ignore] 23,Jan,19 10:13 other posts
That is why there is 2 or more parties.Because it takes all kinds WORKING TOGETHER to solve problems.
Yes the fed or state could mandate expanding the avaialbity of health care as far as time of day if they would.
BUT the fed could also mandate the cost of education to become a medical doctor or nurse.Have you had any dealings with the cost of being educated in the US? When a doctor gets his or her or it's degree,it is saddled with a 100 grand of college debt. So they charge alot to cover that.
Medical fraud insurance.it cost alot to cover up all the doctors fuck ups. So they charge more. Fix that.
Just a little for staters.I will type up more later.
By #188992 23,Jan,19 10:26
You're beginning to sound decidedly anti-capitalist, phart --- careful!!

How about free education AND free healthcare. And, before you jump up and down, when I say "free" I mean paid for out of the public purse and supported by proper, progressive taxation. Almost like (whisper it quietly) democratic socialism.

And, yes I know, the S word makes some Americans froth at the mouth. Just tell me what's wrong with the tenet.

Policticaly Correctness. The concept of being able to pick up a turd from the clean end.
Frankly I think it is stupid to have to change your wording so as to not offend someone regardless of your ideals.
We should all be free to speak our minds without fear of lawsuits and mob gangs burning down our homes.
Even if I think what you said was dumb as hell,as long as you don't stand in the way of my abilty to reply, you are free to speak. That is the way it should be.

By JustWill [Ignore] 22,Jan,19 10:00 other posts
What does that even mean? Are you suggesting that a black person shouldn't be offended when someone drops an N-bomb on them?

You do realize that the vast majority of people who whine about political correctness are old white guys who miss being able to use racial slurs in public, right?

Other than giving you a false sense of "superiority", what do you actually gain by intentionally insulting other people?
By #188992 21,Jan,19 18:43
It reminds me of a great book I recently read by Yasmin Alibhai-Brown. Some of the accompanying "blurb" pretty much sums up my opinion:

Individual rights cannot always take precedence over collective, social responsibility. Without self-moderation, our streets, schoolyards, public transport, waiting rooms and restaurants would turn into bear pits. Most citizens understand that. Some, however, seem determined to cause disorder in the name of free speech. Powerful, machiavellian and wealthy individuals are leading this disruption and breaking the old consensus.

Thus, anti-political correctness has taken over the UK and US, spearheaded by some of the most influential voices in media and politics. Invective, lies, hate speech, bullying, intemperance and prejudice have become the new norms. Intolerance is justified through invocations of liberty. Restraint is oppression. A new order has been established in which racism, sexism, homophobia and xenophobia are proudly expressed.

In spite of many failures, this (PC) movement has led to a more civilised, equal and tolerant world.

Some of what is said there is folks taking it to the extreme.I don't walk around calling folks the n word just for the hell of it for example.
It aint smart.
But if the subject came up about why are more blacks in jail than whites,I would have to bite my tongue for the sake of politcal correctness as for whatever reason the fact the stats could explain it would offend them.
That is where I think the polical correctness is used by the liberal democrat. If a person trys to explain a problem or a solution and the numbers and facts hurt them, they holler the person is politicaly incorrect and all the other adjectives they can cough up.
It is used like a tool by alot of people to suppress what they don't want to hear.
By #188992 22,Jan,19 09:27
"We should all be free to speak our minds without fear of lawsuits and mob gangs burning down our homes. "

"I don't walk around calling folks the n word just for the hell of it for example.

CAN YOU not understand.? is the question. Please don't take that as being mean,I just wanted you to see the question so I made it capitol letters.
I have to be concerned, that is the whole problem!.We should not have to be concerned.BUT at the same time, the actions of others should not prompt us to need to vent ourselves in a way that would be offensive.
Treat each other well, love each other, and there would be no need to be negitive. I will google that fancy word you used. Sorry,I am not a walking Websters!
By #188992 22,Jan,19 12:57
I disagree.

You being "concerned", which I take to mean as taking care when you choose your words, is part of being a decent, responsible citizen. So you SHOULD be concerned, as should we all.

You seem to agree that calling African Americans the N word is offensive. Would you entertain the proposition that calling people "crippled", rather than "disabled", could also be considered offensive?

If you do, I would suggest that you agree that language evolves and that what was acceptable 20 years ago is no longer acceptable.

I'm not a fan of legislating in these matters but I do think being "politically correct" (for want of a better phrase) is part of treating each other well and loving each other - to plagiarise your own words.

To really twist your melon I am a free speech absolutist. People are free to say whatever they want (barring such silly examples as shouting "Fire" in a crowded theatre). Here's the catch though: just because you're free to say it doesn't make it morally acceptable.

Thanks for the caveat. I don't think you're being mean, but I would encourage you to think about the inherent contradictions in your statements so far.

A woman who had been married three times walked into a bridal shop one day and told the sales clerk that she was looking for a wedding gown for her fourth wedding.

"Of course, madam," replied the sales clerk, "exactly what type and color dress are you looking for?"

The bride-to-be said, "A long frilly white dress with a veil."

"Please don't take this the wrong way, madam, but such dresses are usually more fitting for the first time bride who is more innocent in the ways of life, if you get my meaning.

"WELL!," replied the customer, a little peeved at the clerk's directness, "I can assure you that a white gown would be quite appropriate. Believe it or not, despite all my marriages, I remain as innocent as a first-time bride.
You see, my first husband was so excited about our wedding, he died as we were checking into our honeymoon hotel.
My second husband and I got into such a terrible fight in the limo on our way to our honeymoon hotel that we had that wedding annulled immediately and never spoke to each other again."

"What about your third husband?"

"That one was a Democrat", said the woman, "and every night for four years, he just sat on the edge of the bed and told me how good it was going to be, but nothing ever happened."

By bella! [Ignore] 15,Jan,19 08:26 other posts
Just my opinion, it looks like business as usual. I'm quite certain that if I was employed by the government, I would have a lot to say.

Mail is delivered daily and where I live and from where Iwork, it would appear that our custom agents and border patrol employees report to work daily.
By phart [Ignore] 15,Jan,19 10:06 other posts
I haven't noticed anything yet.
I have to admit I would rather the folks got a pay check that are working but I can't fix that.
BUT I did read about 1 guy that was crying about not getting a check and his hourly wage was 45 bucks a hour! If he aint making enough to put back some for a rainy day, I don't feel a bit sorry for him.
What I would like for the democrats to do is to explain WHO decided WHAT branchs of government not to pay to work?
IF you gave a half a damn about the US you would not stop air traffic controlers and security personal from getting a check. You would cut park stafff, Epa staff, fbi office workers, jobs with a low impact on the safety of the people.
What has happened is some libtard decided to cut these folks off to make the US ripe for a terrorist attack they could in turn blame on TRUMP,thus making him look bad.
Think about that before you comment. They created a nest to hatch a terriable sitution.

Trump said he would keep the government shutdown for years and he confirmed that he actually said that...
I really feel for the people not getting paid...
What happens if those people cannot meet mortgage payments or rent cuz they have used their savings already?
It's not their fault government shutdown is it? They are being used as pawns...
So not really sure it's some libtards fault....

Phart did you forget that the president had ultimate power; the Senate, House of Representatives and the Presidency for two years and failed to live up to Trump's promise of building a wall between the US and Mexico that Mexico would pay for? Remember that campaign promise?
Did you hear Trump say to Schumer and Pelosi at their news conference that he, Trump, would OWN this shutdown?
Are you aware that the building of the wall and the government shutdown have NOTHING in common? Why is the government shutdown because the wall isn't being built? Why isn't the wall already built?
Why do you want the Democrats to explain who decided what branches of government not to pay to work? The POTUS is a Republican and the reason that they are not being paid is because Trump is holding them hostage! The citizens of the USA that work for the Federal Government are being held hostage by their President because he can't get his wall built.
The two things have nothing in common.

I want someone, democrats,to explain who decided who does and does not get paid because THEY are the 1's that benifit from any bad press.
I will be the first to admit,we had a bunch of Rino's in office those 2 years that would not support our President and their names are remembered.1 is no longer with us that messed up the removal of O care but anyway, there was alot of traitors in office at that time.

But as for the workers,I do feel for them, but they should be poking at the Dem's to agree to the wall so things can get back to going. But as for the 1 whineing about not getting his 45 a hour, at that much money coming in,he should have a savings. No reason not to.
Prosperity is worthless if your nation is not secure.and right now it is not.
By mr_blue [Ignore] 16,Jan,19 13:23 other posts
Democrats are happy with the wall that is already there, trump is the one who had a deal on the table and threw a hissy fit,he admitted that too...
And savings only go so far,so someone should save money for a rainy day, then be happy that the money they have saved for their future is being eaten up by day to day living expenses...
Even when trump admits he owns the shutdown, you are still blaming democrats...that is the power of the Donald over his supporters...
By kebmo [Ignore] 16,Jan,19 15:03 other posts
Phart, when will you realize that the government shutdown is something that YOUR PRESIDENT decided to go forward with. It isn't the fault of someone else because TRUMP decided to do something stupid.
I think that most people agree that the US needs border security AND that the government shutdown needs to end but, and read this carefully, WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER? They are two separate issues.
The Democrats tabled a bill to finance the government and reopen it and sent it to Trump to sign but he refused to because it didn't include funding for the wall.
Why would he do that Phart?

The two things have nothing in common.
The two things have nothing in common.
The two things have nothing in common.
--------------------------------------- added after 18 minutes

The federal government decides who has to work unpaid and who is laid off. These decisions are not made by the Democratic Party.

Those who remain at work are called "excepted" while those who are furloughed are called "non-excepted" (not "essential" vs. "non-essential," which are the more commonly used, but not official, terms). Individual agencies make these decisions in what the government calls contingency plans.
By #551147 16,Jan,19 16:20
The amount of funding being requested for border security, is MINUSCULE in contrast to the rest of government spending and budgets! It's virtually INSIGNIFICANT in the grand scheme of things. That being said, those same fingers your pointing at the President, can ALSO point to the dipshits on the left. It's called HYPOCRISY!! Why do we wish to excoriate one, Donald J. Trump, and not the other fuckheads? I ask that question with utmost sincerity. Here's why this is even being spoken about.

1. Do the news sources you use, report or show the number of agents begging for a barrier? NO!

2. Are your news sources showing you recent collages or sound bites, video clips, interviews, etc. of each and everyone of them douchebags on the left, i.e. Pelosi, Shumer, and many others. Stating during their time in politics that they believe in and WANT a barrier between Mexico and the United States? NO!

Shall I load this thread up with the PROOF of them stating their positions on this matter? And NOW! OMG! Because Donald J. Trump is President of the United States, "walls are immoral" OR "walls are ineffective". Gimme a fucking break!

If I post them are you going to watch them? If I post the ones in charge of border security, unno the bosses if you will, requesting a barrier. Would you watch it? Aren't the ones in charge of our border security supposed to be the experts and know what's needed?

I'll answer for you... NO, you won't take the time to watch them because it won't fit your narrative or blinding HATRED!

Now! Why is it SOLELY his fault? Where's your outcry for them, the left, Dems, to stop being obstructionists? Why didn't you include them in this thread?

The amount is minuscule as aforementioned, so fucking what, give it to him! Let's move on!

Lastly, it's OBVIOUSLY needed for a multitude of reasons so whether one has anything to do with the other or not give him the fucking money, and POOOF the shutdown is OVER!

He is the President of the United States whether you like it or not. If he deems it necessary, along with the experts, or those in charge of our security. Then give it to him! That's WORKING TOGETHER, no such luck for that anytime soon.

I'll leave you with this thought...

We have doors on our homes, walls, blinds, curtains, shades, etc. for reasons. I'm sure you understand that! Before you start with the compassionate bullshit. I'm sure a vast number of us would help anyone that comes a knockin on our door in need of help. Would you be willing to help that same person if they knock DOWN your door OR walls to gain entry into your home? Well... Would you? The answer is probably fuck no!! If not, then you are an idiot who should be committed. STOP YOUR FUCKING HYPOCRISY!

Scorpio, just giving the president the money for the wall is capitulation not working together. He's used to having things done the way he wants them but that's just not the case any more. The American electorate has spoken.

Maybe if every unpaid air traffic controller in the country phoned in sick for a few days shit would get done.
By #551147 17,Jan,19 03:00
Works for me as I could give a flying fuck about air traffic.

You're surely right about them having spoken. Hence him being the President. That was a major sell for his base.

By your statement, I can only assume you believe the American people don't want the wall. May I further assume that you believe that, because of some poll you heard? Ever consider those saying the American people don't want the wall are the same ones that said Hillary was most certainly going to win and Mr. Trump would lose by HUGE margin? Is that why ALL them pollsters mouths were hanging open when he won? I noticed you FAILED to rebuttal the fact that the same ones obstructing it, are on record FOR a barrier, some many times in past years. How in YOUR mind is it ok to NOW say NO wall, simply because it's Donald Trump wanting it? What's the real reason they dont want it, ALL OF A SUDDEN? Please enlighten me.

I thought that how I feel about this situation was quite clear to any literate, English speaking person who actually took the time to read what I wrote. Perhaps if you go back and read what I said in this thread you might be better qualified to opine on how I feel about this issue.
By #551147 17,Jan,19 14:00
Perhaps YOU, should go back and read!

I didn't once say it was YOUR opinion, views, thoughts, stance, or nothing of the like. Where did you glean that from? To be honest, everyone is entitled to an opinion, whatever yours may be.

Next... Where did you state that the American people don't want a wall built?

Ok, I will concede that I drew a conclusion from a rather bland statement made by YOU! "The American electorate has spoken." Your words! That's the WHOLE reason why I bothered to respond, at all.

Since your insinuating that I extrapolated the wrong conclusion from your statement, I apologize! Now, please delight me with your acumen in a more concise manner as to what you meant by, "The American electorate has spoken." 🤔

Well All I can say is this.I got a good laugh today.
Nancy and her Democrat sheeples were going to board a military aircraft and go on a 7 day public relations tour at taxpayer exspense. Trump sent word and post poned the trip in his letter explaining that he would prefer her to stay in Washington and work out the problems instead of leaving. BUT IF She wanted to go on her "vacation" may as well say, she was welcome to fly commecial!

Now,that trip would have put them out of the country during the second pay period the employees have not been paid, that would put them out of the country so their enemys and friends alike could not implore them to work torwards a solution.ALL ON OUR DIME.just as all ways but this time with more more important folks waiting for a pay check.Makes normal folks wonder if the Dems really care about the people or themselves.
WHich by the way I think Trump signed some papers this morning to get them their back pay.
By #551147 17,Jan,19 18:45
He, Keb, was attempting to show the contrast between the funding of government workers and the wall as having nothing to do with one another. The part he fails to realize is that, 90% or greater of ALL funding legislation has a ton of shit included that has nothing to do with one another. So... Since that appears to be the norm in Washington. It makes NO difference whether he does it now or with another spending bill. Some of those affected by this shut down, (border patrol agents), stood/stand in solidarity with the President about his decision. I'm sure it's not all, nevertheless a lot do and did. IF I were affected by this shut down in ANY way. I would still stand by him as he is right to do so. They are nothing more than obstructionist and instead of bashing JUST him they are just as fucking bashworthy and equally as stupid.

But there is another hoard of people headed this way as I type and they are hoping their numbers are so great they can STORM over the border and run.

It is not a matter of "wanting" a wall,it is a matter of we see the need for something drastic to be done to fix a problem.
